Née le 1er septembre 1940 à Lillebonne, en Seine-Maritime, Annie Ernaux a grandi à Yvetot, en Normandie, où ses parents tenaient un café-épicerie. Issue d'un milieu modeste, elle poursuit cependant des études supérieures et devient agrégée de lettres.
Elle enseignera à Annecy, puis au Centre National d'Enseignement à Distance. Son premier roman, Les armoires vides (1974), met en scène Denise Lesur, sorte de double de l'auteur, héroïne confrontée à un avortement. En 1984 elle obtient le prix Renaudot pour La place, où elle revient sur la vie de son père. Annie Ernaux renonce très rapidement à la fiction pour s'attacher à l'autofiction, son écriture étant marquée par la présence du « Je ».
Ainsi, elle évoquera son adolescence dans Ce qu'ils disent ou rien (1977), son mariage dans La femme gelée (1981), sa mère dans Une femme (1988) et la maladie d'Alzheimer de celle-ci dans Je ne suis pas sortie de ma nuit (1997), ses parents dans La honte (1997), l'attente amoureuse dans Passion simple (1992), son avortement dans L'événement (2000) (suite des Armoires vides ), la jalousie d'une femme dans L'occupation (2002), son cancer dans L'usage de la photo (2005).
Une partie de son œuvre est marquée par le clivage entre le milieu modeste et populaire dans lequel elle a grandi et le milieu bourgeois, "socialement supérieur" : "Pour moi écrire est profondément lié à ma situation sociale en tant qu'individu". Ses ouvrages parlent aussi du féminin, sous l'angle de la sexualité et de l'intime.
« J'ai toujours eu envie d'écrire des livres dont il me soit ensuite impossible de parler, qui rendent le regard d'autrui insoutenable. Mais quelle honte pourrait m'apporter l'écriture d'un livre qui soit à la hauteur de ce que j'ai éprouvé dans ma douzième année. » Annie Ernaux

Livre fascinant écrit par une femme
Une histoire personnel qui explique aussi la société vue par une femme.
Par contre, la donneuse de voix est du niveau d’une élève de 14 ans. Il est désagréable de voir qu’Audible vend ses livres audio au même niveau que Librivox ou autre livre audio gratuit.
