What would have made Learn English: Ultimate Getting Started with English Box Set, Lessons 1-55 better?

This is the most ridiculous approach I have ever seen for studying a new foreign language. It begins with a diatribe of English instructions and then falls into a complex dialog. This approach begs the question: why get a book at all?, instead just thrust the person into the the real world.
