Trillions of dollars have been spent on fighting drug addiction and the illegal importation of narcotics in the US and many other countries around the world. Adults should have the freedom to choose to use narcotics or not, and taxpayers have a right to not fund bloated government programs that perpetuate the use of drugs through profiteering as a result of prohibition. The world's prisons should be filled with people who commit violent crimes, not drug users and dealers. Manufacturing narcotics is relatively easy, but the clandestine importation and sale of them lead to violence, death, and social upheaval. If people want to use drugs, they should have the freedom to do so, and if they die, so be it. Governments can't expect people to dump endless amounts of tax dollars into social programs that don't work and indirectly the illicit businesses that are ruining their communities. Once someone becomes addicted to a substance, they will be addicted to it for life, so fighting the inevitable fate of addicts is not only pointless but a violation of people's right to live freely!
