The blight of ensemble voice cast are gone!

This book fixed the worst aspect of the last 2, the terrible ensemble voice cast.

Great story, great reading!

Those review about the VA are wrong

First this book is just great, any RR fan will love it in my opinion, its a bigger page turner than dark age.
Second a lot of reviews are pooping on TGR narration or complaining about the audio quality, i think his narration is great but i understand they got use to lysander's VA from IG/DA. There are some lines he did that brought me to tears with his performance is all ill say from the quality of the VA, the only complaint is his Lysander is basically darrow which is tough since he wasnt doing the va for him in the last two books.
Lastly, im 2/3 through the book and had to write this review because i saw all the negative reviews, this book is great so far and i can't image it having a bad ending. My two cents, TGR and PB are gods of their craft and can't wait for the last book.

Great book, bad audio choice

I’ve looked forward to this book for years and was not disappointed by the plot and its writing. It took much different directions than I ever thought it would, and that was a pleasant surprise.

What was an unpleasant surprise: a single voice actor. I love TGR a lot, but to tell the multiple POV’s I personally thought it was a terrible decision to have “Darrow’s Voice” telling all perspectives. It was hard at times to even hear the difference between some of the male characters; Lyria was the only one I could always pick out. It was really a huge disappointment after the amazing array of cast in the two books prior. I know not everyone loved the change of voices for chapters, but I think most people who get the audiobook would prefer that to TGR being the sole narrative voice.

Fantastic book with a good pace of progress in this incredibly intricate storyline, I’d always recommend. But, honestly, I totally support the #rerecord trend. This book deserves the same production quality as the two that came before.

Another negative opinion on voice actor choice

You had it right with the previous book. I loved the voice actors. I enjoy Darrow's voice very much, but it's weird hearing Lysander speak like a hell-diver.

Have an open mind!

I’d be willing to bet most people who have commented so far are also big fans. The problem with that is the time in-between the 5th book to this one left a lot of time to read and re-read the series. Most people probably had their minds set on how this book was going to play out or at least a general idea but this book took a far different path than I expected. In my opinion, the first couple hours are rough bc you expected multiple voice actors and he had to catch you up on so many different threads that we were left in the 5th book.

Now I’d be willing to bet that Pierce had a totally different conclusion and characters plot lines in mind before he scrapped the work he had and started re-writing this book. I don’t say any of this to scare you but to suggest keeping an open mind in listening to this book. About halfway through the book, you really start to get a sense that in a lot of ways Pierce probably was on a journey in these books and struggling in a lot of the ways Darrow does. By the end, it feels like Pierce and Darrow are back in the saddle. Overall prepare for something a little different but to wrap up with the nostalgic feelings of the first couple of the books in this series.

I’m already salivating for Red God

This book was absolutely EVERYTHING! Still thinking about how it ended…

Of course Tim’s vocals helped paint the picture and breath life to each character.

Best so far

This jumps to the top of the second series for sure and might be fighting for top spot after a relisten. Keep up the good work PB!

Amazing next installment in an Awesome Series

Amazing book. I couldn’t stop listening and really enjoyed the further development of Darrow and Co. It’s a breath of fresh air after dark age but still full of the signature Pierce Brown twists and turns.

A great book about a bad story.

Some books we churn through pages to find a happy ending, for others a daring triumph, but this story we stand rapt in muted horror, anticipation, and outrage. This is all made worse because it seems so realistic, atleast from a behavioralist perspective. This book shows the bright spots of humanity, and how our darkness will not leave the whole unblighted. This is a really good book, but a horrific story. I reluctantly admit..... I'll buy the next one too, just to see how it ends, though it seems it never does. As within, so without, I suppose.

I've been a big fan of this series and for a very long time , ive listened and re listened, not only have i yet to be disappointed it just keeps getting better i definitely would recommend this book / series. performance was top notch, only hiccup in my opinion was Lysander and darrow sounded to similar which was a bit annoying but either then that the story was exactly what I've come to expect, thrilling, fast pace and hard to stop listening.
