I would have enjoyed listening to this book much more without AI narration. It doesn't understand the tone of this story about people being murdered. Shocking or tense situations of betrayal and death are given the gravity of an uneventful weather report. It doesn't change voices making conversations difficult to follow. It does a terrible job with proper nouns. It feels like no one at Audible or the production company cared about this book and put a narration out as a money grab. At least have an editor give it a listen and give the AI some direction on tone and names.
The story itself was interesting and suspensful but not really mysterious. Some of it felt a bit unrealistic and I wished we got more from James' perspective. Overall I'm happy this book is available in AI narration because it's better than nothing for those who can't or choose not to read the book but the story would have been enhanced significantly if some emotion was used in the audio.
