Moist von Lipwig returns in Making Money (the 36th book in the Discworld series and second in the Moist von Lipwig collection). Condemned prisoner turned postal worker extraordinaire, Moist is now in charge of a different branch of the government: overseeing the printing of Ankh-Morpork’s first paper currency. This new audiobook recording is narrated by Richard Coyle (Moist von Lipwig in the television adaptation of Going Postal), with Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reading the footnotes, and Peter Serafinowicz (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace) starring as the voice of Death.

Amazingly, former arch-swindler-turned-Postmaster General Moist von Lipwig has somehow managed to get the woefully inefficient Ankh-Morpork Post Office running like . . . well, not like a government office at all. Now the supreme despot Lord Vetinari is asking Moist if he'd like to make some real money. Vetinari wants Moist to resuscitate the venerable Royal Mint—so that perhaps it will no longer cost considerably more than a penny to make a penny.

Moist doesn't want the job. However, a request from Ankh-Morpork's current ruling tyrant isn't a "request" per se, more like a "once-in-a-lifetime-offer-you-can-certainly-refuse-if-you-feel-you've-lived-quite-long-enough." So Moist will just have to learn to deal with elderly Royal Bank chairman Topsy (née Turvy) Lavish and her two loaded crossbows, a face-lapping Mint manager, and a chief clerk who's probably a vampire. But he'll soon be making lethal enemies as well as money, especially if he can't figure out where all the gold has gone.

fantastic writing, read fantastically

this gripping and satirical tale takes hold the reader from both the realms of humor and intrigue, and the voice work sells the rest.

Terry Pratchett… always a winner

You can’t go wrong with Terry Pratchett. This story is great. Loveable characters, unexpected situations, great writing. The narration is spot on, too.

Best narration ever

Without a doubt my absolute favorite narrator ever. Of all the Discworld books, which I discovered in 2022 and have only ever listened to and not read (well, I did read most of Pyramids, but then the new audio version came out so I listened to the rest), my favorites seem to be this particular trilogy of Going Postal, Making Money, and (yet to be listened to at this time) Raising Steam. I also loved Small Gods, and Andy Serkis certainly did great work there, but Richard Coyle just constantly goes above and beyond in an almost distracting way like “damn, how did he produce the insane laugh of Hubert in the recording booth?” Anyway, I’m downloading Raising Steam now and listening as soon as I type this last period.

Excellent in every way

Love me some Mr Fusspot! Coyle is an amazing artist. He will always be Moist to me.

Perfect again! The amazing works of Terry Pratchett. IYKYK. If you have never encountered his works, I hope you have plenty of vacation time available.

Better production

I think this version has several lines in the last two chapters that were missing in the previous production. The denouement makes more sense.

Another banger

Terry Pratchett was a brilliant writer, and this story is another example of that fact.the performance is superb as well!
