Acerca de esta escucha

From the USA Today best-selling series.

There are three things you need to know about Kat Tanner (aka Kathleen Tyson...and yes, she is that Kathleen Tyson). One: She’s determined to make good decisions. Two: She must get married ASAP. And three: She knows how to knit.

Being a billionaire heiress isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. In fact, it sucks. Determined to live a quiet life, Kat Tanner changed her identity years ago and eschewed her family’s legacy. But now, Kat’s silver spoon past has finally caught up with her, and so have her youthful mistakes. To avoid imminent disaster, she must marry immediately; it is essential that the person she chooses have no romantic feelings for her whatsoever and be completely trustworthy.

Fortunately, she knows exactly who to ask. Dan O’Malley checks all the boxes: single, romantically indifferent to her, completely trustworthy. Sure, she might have a wee little crush on Dan the Security Man, but with clear rules, expectations, and a legally binding contract, Kat is certain she can make it through this debacle with her sanity - and heart - all in one piece.

Except, what happens when Dan O’Malley isn’t as indifferent - or as trustworthy - as she thought?

Sorry Not Sorry

First, the narration of both the voice artists is perfect. Not one monotone moment, pacing perfect, no two characters (and there are a lot of them) sounding the same.

Second, the story. As someone who has read the series, the temptation to write a lengthy response to all that I felt throughout the book is very, very strong. But I don't think that will help you very much, so I'll try to stick to stuff I want to know when I'm trying to decide when to gamble on a new series.

As a whole, the series is full of rich characters with complex back stories and lots and lots of feelings that somehow narrowly avoid being too much angst. This book is no different. I cried twice before the 50% mark. It couldn't be helped. Generally speaking, the books in the series can stand alone to greater or lesser degree. Love Hacked works just fine as a stand alone, for example. I don't think this one does, even if we take the lengthy epilogue out of the equation. First, the supporting cast pitches in here with the gifts they have to offer, and these gifts and the cryptic comments the characters make, have so much more meaning if you know Alex and Sandra like I know Alex and Sandra (Love Hacked). Janie's ability to do what she does is best understood if you meet her in Neanderthal Meets Human. Marie gets the least explanation here, so to understand what she does and how she thinks, you'd need to have read Dating-ish, and the whole scene with Nico, the Chicago police, and the hired goons (much less why he was there at all) only makes complete sense of you read Friends without Benefits. Greg is just a pompous ... anyway, you'd get him and invite him to your BBQ if you'd read Ninja at First Sight, and Fiona's comments at one critical point here make the most sense if you read Happily Ever Ninja. In short, this standalone novel is best enjoyed after you've read all the KiTC that came before. Good news, they're all well narrated, too.

Finally, all that is wonderful about this story rests on the fact that when you read the books in order, you meet Dan at about the same time Kat does, and that means you have been waiting for these two to get together through many, many sequels, so the elements of the story that might otherwise seem ridiculously impetuous are instead a long time coming. That makes for an entirely different novel, and it is a lovely one.

Loved it!

Any story by Penny Reid is magnificent, but especially one that I've been waiting for with bated breath! The characters are amazing, storyline is intriguing, thought provoking facts and topics to consider, and there's plenty of humor to balance it all out. Stephen Dexter did a magnificent job with different accents. He was absolutely perfect for the role of Dan. I had a little trouble with the actor who voiced Kat. Angela Dawe did a great job, but she has also voiced another character for a different Penny Reid book. And in that book, Angela was so amazingly believable as that character, I just had a hard time hearing her as Kat. But that is completely my own hangup, and not a reflection of Angela's performance in this book. I can't recommend this book/audiobook enough. Loved it!

Boston accent done right

I love this entire series and this book was no exception.

A narrator that gets the Boston accent right is a rare thing indeed.

The Best EVVA!!

I cannot ignore the fact that Dan's character is just a phenomenal man...A REAL MAN who understands the worth of the good women in his life. That accent...Stephen Dexter was amazing! I laughed so hard listening to this book. Penny's wicked smart sense of humor had me literally laughing out loud. I don't even care what the other drivers thought as I cried laughing in my car. This series was amazing and I have no idea what else Penny Reid has written, but I must say this...HUGE fan...HUGE!!!

Wonderful audiobook

I loved this book, and the audiobook is wonderful. The narrators did a great job of bringing the characters, and the story, to life. the author always writes great characters and interesting storylines. She manages to entertain and inform the reader at the same time, with well researched information based on facts. I highly recommend this book and the audiobook.
