The only thing I knew about Mary Poppins was the Disney Movie featuring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. I have always enjoyed that telling of the story and am glad to learn that the original story is great as well. I look forward to listening to the rest of the series. Sophie Thompson did an excellent job narrating. She understands characters really well and gets their voices in a manner that is great entertainment. If she doesn't have tons of book narrations in her work history, then she is being greatly undervalued. Highly recommend this book. Highly recommend Sophie Thompson.

"Mary Poppins is a grouchy good witch" saidmyeldst
we listened to this in the car, and my kids were surprised at how stern Mary Poppins was. truthfully I was too. I had forgotten how different she is from the movies. still very enjoyable, but it something to be aware of.

Amazing Storytelling
The story was full of delightful surprises. I’ve seen the movie many times, but the Travers’ storytelling here is even more droll and imaginative. There are many mediocre audio book readings. This is not one of those. The voice is Poppins’ world personified. I will continue to enjoy this audio book again and again.

I still like the Disney version better.
I think Walt took out the things that should have been taken out and left in the things that made the movie version so amazing.
But, lots of people love it.

Kind of harsh
Marry Poppins herself was harsh, and a little vain, but was over all OK. The narration was hard to understand, but I got used to it.

Not best for listening
This is not the best book for mere listening. It’s difficult to follow because of some many different characters in dialogue. I will stick with watching this one!
