Resumen del Editor

At the center is the beautiful, unconquerable witch, Merrick. She is a descendant of the gens de colors libres, a cast derived from the black mistresses of white men, a society of New Orleans octoroons and quadroons, steeped in the lore and ceremony of voodoo, who reign in the shadowy world where the African and the French - the white and the dark - intermingle. Her ancestors are the Great Mayfair Witches, of whom she knows nothing - and from whom she inherits the power and magical knowledge of a Circe.

Into this exotic New Orleans realm comes David Talbot, hero, storyteller, adventurer, almost mortal vampire, visitor from another dark realm. It is he who recounts Merrick's haunting tale - a tale that takes us from the New Orleans of the past and present to the jungles of Guatemala, from the Mayan ruins of a century ago to ancient civilizations not yet explored.

Anne Rice's richly told novel weaves an irresistible story of two worlds: the witches' world and the vampires' world, where magical powers and otherworldly fascinations are locked together in a dance of seduction, death, and rebirth.

disappointing for Anne Rice.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No, because it seems as though she was picking previous characters and re-telling parts of their stories. Too tame for Anne Rice.

Would you ever listen to anything by Anne Rice again?

I don't know.

What about Graeme Malcolm’s performance did you like?

I like his voice; very pleasant.

Do you think Merrick needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Definitely not. She does not play a substantial role. She is mostly listening.

good story terrible audio quality

there are parts in this that are incredibly difficult to hear or understand due to the terrible low and muffled audio quality of the recording this is the only audiobook I've ever had that I've considered not finishing

WRONG ACCENT!!

One of my favorite stories in the Rice collection. But Aaron Lightner is most certainly British!! With a beautiful old world English accent, remarked upon repeatedly in the Mayfair Chronicles! Why was he given a southern drawl???? Bad. Bad. Bad.

The audio was painful

It's as if the voice actor changes equipment randomly throughout the reading. The story was slow in the beginning, like most of these, but the recording made it seem doubly so. If you power through the audio you'll enjoy the story.

Pretty good

The sound was kind "meh" but the narrator was WAAAAY BETTER than the dude that did Armand's story and 7 books in and I'm still aching for more. ON WITH THE TALE!! MARIUS HERE I COME!!

Great story. Poor Audio

I loved the story and the voice fit but it sounded like it was coming out of an antique radio and was recorded under water.

Hmmm

The story is a bit dull compared to the other works by Anne Rice. It still contains the same rich detail that completely immerses the reader, though and I am partial to any book that can consume me like these do. I think the Narrator did a wonderful job of speaking the parts accurately.

Very Good Regardless of Recording

Book was wonderful and so was the narrator. There is an issue with the recordings sound, but if you use headphones it isn’t as noticeable. Great book and a great addition to the series! Glad I didn’t let other reviews stop me from listening to this book.

Great story, Wrong narrator.

I have been revisiting the books of Anne Rice via Audio and LOVED the narrator for the Mayfair trilogy…the narrator’s voice for this book was painful. It took me months to finish the book.
