Acerca de esta escucha

Hattie Murton never dreamed of TV stardom. A straight-from-a-fairytale encounter with a casting agent somehow landed her a part on what she’d thought would be a one-off pilot for Leicester Square, a bodice-ripping drama adapted from a bestselling romance novel. Buoyed by a surge in demand for romantic dramas, the show instead propelled its core cast to household-name status within a month.

Hattie tries to look on the positive side of all situations, but four seasons of brutal press, overly invested fans, and a cutthroat industry that’s never quite felt like the right fit would give even Pollyanna an edge of cynicism. And high on the ‘con’ list when it comes to her current and unintended career is having to share a set and some horrendously early starts with Anthony Rafe. Leicester Square villain. A-lister. Absolute prat.

In the new season’s scripts, it appears that her previously sane, rational character is about to lose her mind and begin an unexpected and unsettlingly graphic affair with the series villain. Forced into close—very close and very…intimate—proximity with the man everyone loves to hate, Hattie’s horror is matched only by Anthony’s drawling disdain. But when very real chemistry sparks during their scripted love scenes, Hattie begins to think the industry’s legendarily heartless Bad Guy might just have a pulse after all. And Anthony, for his part, is caught off-guard by the way his heart races when he’s around his aggravating onscreen lover.

As reality starts to imitate art a little too close for comfort, the world’s most unlikely couple might just have more in common than they thought…

Slow burn

Foremost, the performances were terrific. I’ll listen to either actor read anything. The story was enjoyable and while I felt it moved a bit slowly for the most part, the love story and surrounding relationships did keep me interested. I listened a second time and probably paid closer attention once I knew better who was who- since many of the characters are actors in a period drama they have two names and different personalities. I thought Hattie and Anthony’s romance was believable and while fairly brief, there were a few spicy moments. I’m glad this story made its way into my library and I’ll likely revisit it again.

Another gem in the free catalog

The story was well developed, and so were the characters. entertaining dialogue, overall very enjoyable to read. both narrators did a great job, particularly the male narrator. I'm glad this was offered as a free book in the catalog because I have found a new author I otherwise had not heard of. I will definitely be reading more of her books in the future now that I am familiar with her.

Outstanding narration, slow burn, true intimacy

This story was witty, with flawed but relatable characters. Both narrators did a phenomenal job, and Nicola Coughlan’s performance was so good that I forgot it was Nicola Coughlan. The story involved spicy moments but didn’t come across as a shag fest, which was a refreshing change from some more recent reads of mine. It had heart, and I strongly recommend.

Meh. Some likable qualities.

Liked the narrators. Liked the overall story. The writing was somewhat hard to follow at times which caused the story to lag.

Amazing

Nicola Coughlan’s performance for the different characters was stunning. Another talent she surprised me with! Gwilym Lee was also wonderful. I hope this can be a future Rom/Com movie or more from the author. Great description for picturing the scenes and characters. Loved the feel of being behind the scenes of filming the period piece show.

Good

Fun slow burn romance. There was so much to like, especially the MCs. They make a great couple. Their past pains were nicely revealed & managed. It was a touch confusing going back and forth between their real life and the TV series characters. I'd catch myself shaking my head then having to rewind to get my bearings. There were also WAY too many sub-characters, many were superfluous story threads that lead nowhere. Unfortunately, it felt like rambling or filler and didn’t as much add to the story than it detracted from it. Also, I was a tiny bit disappointed in the ending. It should have been swoonworthy but it just felt off with this weird event happening and the continued tension between the males went off on yet another superfluous thread never before introduced.

The narration was very good. Strangely, as I'm a huge Bridgerton 3 fan, I wasnt as thrilled with Nicola Coughlan's performance as I was with Gwilym Lee's. Which was exceptional.
