Acerca de esta escucha

From Karen Gravano, a star of the hit VH1 reality show Mob Wives, comes a revealing memoir of a mafia childhood, where love and family come hand-in-hand with murder and betrayal.

Karen Gravano is the daughter of Sammy “the Bull” Gravano, once one of the mafia's most feared hit men. With 19 confessed murders, the former Gambino Crime Family underboss - and John Gotti’s right-hand man - is the highest ranking gangster ever to turn State’s evidence and testify against members of his high-profile crime family. But to Karen, Sammy Gravano was a sometimes elusive but always loving father figure. He was ever-present at the head of the dinner table. He made a living running a construction firm and several nightclubs. He stayed out late, and sometimes he didn’t come home at all. He hosted “secret” meetings at their house, and had countless whispered conversations with “business associates.” By the age of twelve, Karen knew he was a gangster. And as she grew up, while her peers worried about clothes and schoolwork, she was coming face-to-face with crime and murder. Gravano was 19 years old when her father turned his back on the mob and cooperated with the Feds. The fabric of her family was ripped apart, and they were instantly rejected by the communities they grew up in.This is the story of a daughter’s struggle to reconcile the image of her loving father with that of a murdering Mafioso, and how, in healing the rift between the two, she was able to forge a new life.

Great Story

What made the experience of listening to Mob Daughter the most enjoyable?

I loved the story, I am a huge fan of Mob Wives so when I found out about this book I was very interested. Karen reads this book herself and sometimes you have to really listen to keep up becuase she isn't professionally trained to read. But I like the fact that she did actually read it becuase the emotion she was able to put into it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Mob Daughter?

Her first visit to her dad.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I liked being able to hear her emotion, but she isn't professionally trained so it was hard to follow at times.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

no

Amazing-Thrilling-Heartfelt

Would you consider the audio edition of Mob Daughter to be better than the print version?

Yes, you get to hear her story told in her words.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Mob Daughter?

Hearing her father tell her family he was rolling over and was worried about them. Sammy is a wonderful loving father, you can tell that just by how Karen wrote her book.

Have you listened to any of Karen Gravano’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I love Karen! everything she does is wonderful to me.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES! I played it while driving in my hour and a half commute and I didnt want to get out of the car! LOL so I put on ear plugs and came in the house grabbed a cup of coffee and listened away!

Any additional comments?

This is a wonderful story of a daughter and her family, their trials and tribulations. It shows a warm caring family who in the end only have each other! Thats what true family is.

Superb

You reading gives it a feel no other narrator could. I listened to it in two and a half days, sometimes shaking my head in disbelief, sometimes with my heart pounding. I read your dads story in 2000 I think it was, I read it twice. Then accidentally ran across this story last week and glad I did. I follow your dad on YouTube now, hearing his perspective on things and knowing what all he’s been through, what you all have been through. You’ve all lived and unknowingly built an amazing American story.

Terrible narration

If you could sum up Mob Daughter in three words, what would they be?

Enjoying the story, but it should have been read by a professional. The reading reminded of a schoolchild, choppy and poorly narrated.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Karen Gravano?

Seriously anyone but her
