Resumen del Editor

A genre-busting postapocalyptic first novel - a pause-resisting adventure channeling Animal Farm as imagined by Cormac McCarthy

The "war with no name" has begun; its goal, human extinction. The instigator of this war is the Colony, a race of intelligent ants who, for thousands of years, have been silently building an army that will forever eradicate the destructive, oppressive humans. Under the Colony's watchful eye, this utopia will be free of the humans' penchant for violence, exploitation, and religious superstition. The final step in the Colony's war effort is the transformation of surface animals into high-functioning two-legged beings who will rise up and kill their masters.

Former house cat turned war hero Mort(e) is famous for taking on the most dangerous missions and fighting the dreaded human bioweapon EMSAH. But the true motivation behind Mort(e)'s recklessness is his ongoing search for a pretransformation friend - a dog named Sheba. When he receives a mysterious message from the dwindling human resistance claiming Sheba is alive, he begins a journey that will take him from the remaining human strongholds to the heart of the Colony, where he will discover the source of EMSAH and learn the ultimate fate of all earth's creatures.

Reseñas editoriales

Editors Select, January 2015 - I now know without a doubt that my cat has it out for me – since I’ve caught her three times hanging out on my copy of Mort(e), as if surreptitiously taking notes. Robert Repino’s highly anticipated debut has shades of my favorite book from 2014, The Bees, but it’s much darker. A colony of super intelligent ants is planning the vengeful destruction of humanity, turning cats and dogs into soldiers, and at the center of our story is the great warrior Mort(e) (formerly a neutered, declawed housecat named Sebastian). Ok, so this might all sound ridiculous, but it’s actually blindingly smart and well-executed. Though less of a direct parable than Animal Farm, the big issues of mortality, love, honor, and loyalty are all at play here in a bleak, well-imagined apocalyptic world. Emily, Audible Editor

What a gem!

I absolutely loved this book. At first, I didn't think I'd enjoy it but not was I wrong. Loved the story and the voice actors brought it to life. Just an amazing read or listen all around.

I liked the story but... last 3 hours ruined some

to say in bulletpoints
1. End had illogical plots, going insane
2. Humans were wrongly represented (illogical people)
3. People and ants in story probably had no idea what science based philosophy was.

This book was good, but end 3 hour was terrible, This book destroyed logic in the end, these end people are stupid and does not represent the humanity with logic and science and phillosphical achievement. religion does not represent humanity, rather, our phillosphy, science, and other thing does.
This psuedoreligion is crap, even ant killing everybody would have been better ending lol?
I liked Morte though.

Hooray for CATS.

If you could sum up Mort(e) in three words, what would they be?

My cat Sam

What other book might you compare Mort(e) to and why?

Animal Farm, the animals seek revenge but find that power corrupts just as with their human villains.

What does Bronson Pinchot bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

HE IS Mort(e)! I was totaly engaged with this charecter and his beliefs that his ways were the right ways. Just as we are bamboozeld by our leaders, so was he. Mr. Pinchot brought Mort(e) t0 life and even though he was an enemy we felt his passion and pain, his confussion and remorse. I only hope there is a sequel to this book keeping Mort(e) as the central charecter.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Cats rule dogs drool.

Any additional comments?

Great summer read. Glad it was on daily special as I may not have had the pleasure to read it otherwise.

Not What You'd Think

This book is in the top ten Not What I Was Expecting And My Mind Is Blown category.

When the description says "housecat turned assassin" they mean it literally and seriously. A housecat that becomes sentient and a celebrated war hero who can successfully shoot a pinecone off another soldier's head while drunk.

Think Animal Farm + Starship Troopers + a heavy dose of Nietzsche.

Not for the faint of heart or for those who react poorly to their belief system unapologetically challenged.

One hell of a ride for those who are able to/enjoy a discussion about the folly of humanity.

High Marks for Bronson Pinchot

While this book has some familiar elements from other stories, it stands out by building a tight plot and by having Bronson Pinchot as narrator. Repino's writing style uses few unnecessary words. Sometimes it moves from tight to stark, but the use of well-chosen words is a wonderful change from authors who meander across the sentences with no known goal. As for Bronson Pinshot, his narration is fantastic. He handles the moods, action, and animal voices deftly. I always enjoy his work.
The story takes the world through a change of leadership, customs, and religion with speed and skill. I look forward to more of his writing.

Bronson was great, the story not so much

interesting premise, but the narrative fails to really take advantage of the possibilities presented.

Great concept with average story

I loved the concept of this story in the beginning. I felt like the ant part was too weird and frankly didn't care for it. I thought that the exploration of human-like animals should have been more of a focus. Instead it was pretty easy to forget that these creatures were once animals. They became too much like humans too quick.

Loved it!

I struggled with this book at first, animals being injured is hard for me to deal with but as the story progressed I really started to appreciate this story and the uniqueness of the point of view. well done.

So cool

It was a very fun read and I can’t wait to read more. This is probably some the most interesting plot for a book series I have ever read.
