Acerca de esta escucha
One of the classic volumes of autobiography, My Early Life is a lively and colourful account of a young man's quest for action, adventure and danger. Churchill's schooldays are undistinguished, but he is admitted to Sandhurst and embarks on a career as a soldier and a war correspondent, seeing action in Cuba, in India, in the Sudan - where he took part in the battle of Omdurman, of which he gives us a stirring account - and finally in South Africa.
Taken prisoner by the Boers, Churchill makes a daring escape. Back home he embarks on the political career that is to make him one of Britain's most distinguished parliamentarians.
First published in 1930, when Churchill's most testing time still lay ahead of him, My Early Life is memorable both as an adventure-story and as an account of the events and influences that helped to shape the career of a great Englishman.

John Churchill, the Duke of Marlborough (1644-1722), was one of the greatest military commanders and statesmen in the history of England. Victorious in the Battles of Blenheim (1704) and Ramillies (1706) and countless other campaigns, Marlborough, whose political intrigues were almost as legendary as his military skill, never fought a battle he didn't win. Marlborough also bequeathed the world another great British military strategist and diplomat, his descendant, Winston S. Churchill.

For his four-volume work, Sir Winston Churchill took as his subject these great elements in world history. Volume 1 commences in 55BC, when Julius Caesar famously "turned his gaze upon Britain" and concludes with the Battle of Bosworth in 1485.

The northeastern quarter of the continent of Africa is drained and watered by the Nile. Among and about the headstreams and tributaries of this mighty river lie the wide and fertile provinces of the Egyptian Soudan. Situated in the very centre of the land, these remote regions are on every side divided from the seas by 500 miles of mountain, swamp, or desert. The great river is their only means of growth, their only channel of progress.

Scipio Africanus (236-183 BC) was one of the most exciting and dynamic leaders in history. As commander, he never lost a battle. Yet it is his adversary, Hannibal, who has lived on in public memory. As B. H. Liddell Hart writes, "Scipio's battles are richer in stratagems and ruses - many still feasible today - than those of any other commander in history." Any military enthusiast or historian will find this to be an absorbing, gripping portrait.

His name wasn’t Chester Nez. That was the English name he was assigned in kindergarten. And in boarding school at Fort Defiance, he was punished for speaking his native language, as the teachers sought to rid him of his culture and traditions. But discrimination didn’t stop Chester from answering the call to defend his country after Pearl Harbor, for the Navajo have always been warriors, and his upbringing on a New Mexico reservation gave him the strength to excel as a marine. This is the first and only memoir by one of the original Navajo code talkers of WWII.

At age 24 Winston Churchill was utterly convinced it was his destiny to become prime minister of England one day, despite the fact he had just lost his first election campaign for Parliament. He believed that to achieve his goal, he had to do something spectacular on the battlefield. Despite deliberately putting himself in extreme danger as a British army officer in colonial wars in India and Sudan and as a journalist covering a Cuban uprising against the Spanish, glory and fame had eluded him.

Well written-Well Read
Where does My Early Life rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Churchhill was a master of the English language and sentence structure. The performance of the reading of this book was so well done you could not imagine that Churchhill had not read it himself. this was a great book – – very entertaining and very educational. I give it my highest possible recommendation.
What other book might you compare My Early Life to and why?
I have approximately 25 audio books in my library. Nothing compares to this book.
What about Frederick Davidson’s performance did you like?
Frederick Davidson was Winston Churchhill. It is that simple…
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The entire book was filled with information, education, and humor. It was not a doll moment.

Perfect audio book?
I love biographies of great historical figures, Churchill being perhaps my favorite of all. Who better to give insight into his formative years, than the man himself. The subject matter is fascinating and his writing style is eloquent and witty. The world was lucky to have such a man. Top notch statesman, and top notch writer.
Performance was near perfect. Reader managed to effortlessly evoke Churchill, without doing a caricature.
Performance fantastic, subject endlessly enthralling. Maybe the perfect audio book. Worthy to be listened to time and again.

They say life is better than fiction and it true
Where does My Early Life rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Middle, although I found Churchill's life fascinating and riveting at times, at times it was a little boring.
Which scene was your favorite?
When he escaped from the Boar's, it was very exciting.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
The Early life of a very interesting man
Any additional comments?
I read a book that was more like cliff notes, but this was so much better.

Fantastic performance of an extraordinary book
David Case (AKA: Frederick Davidson) narrated the book so masterfully that I forgot on several occasions that it was not narrated by Churchill himself. If David Case were still alive, I would have him narrate all books written by Churchill!

Meet a self-assured, arrogant world leader.
Very well-written first-person history introduces the reader to WINSTON CHURCHILL in his own words. His language is articulate and often employs precisely the right word. Gain great insight into a variety of world events at the turn of the 19th - 20th Century as be personally introduced, in brief remarks, to many historical figures.

Great story of, and by, a great man.
Great narration that sounded like Churchill's voice. Lots and lots of history. Highly recommend.

Brilliant
Churchill was a brilliant memoirist. A true aristocratic Victorian, with everything that implies. It is very wry, with understated self-reflection. Frederick Davidson is the perfect narrator.

Excellent Story.
A great story. Want more. Loved it. How one person could pack that much, in to a book is beyond me.
