Resumen del Editor

My Man Jeeves, first published in 1919, introduced the world to affable, indolent Bertie Wooster and his precise, capable valet, Jeeves. Some of the finest examples of humorous writing found in English literature are woven around the relationship between these two men of very different classes and temperaments. Where Bertie is impetuous and feeble, Jeeves is coolheaded and poised.

This audiobook, the first collection of Jeeves and Wooster stories, includes "Absent Treatment", "Helping Freddie", "Rallying Round Old George", "Doing Clarence a Bit of Good", "Fixing It for Freddie", and "Bertie Changes His Mind".

Great narrator!

Very funny, especially the Bertie stories. And Jonathan Cecil narrates excellently. I will definitely listen to more of this series when I need a lighthearted book with lots of levity!

Earns 5/5 Dapper Chappie...Quirky Fun!

My introduction to P.G. Wodehouse’s marvelously complex duo, Bertie Wooster and his man servant Jeeves, came from the 1990 production of Jeeves & Wooster (Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, respectively) giving me fantastic sights and sounds to enrich my experience. This compilation of eight shorts, My Man Jeeves is a hilarious romp with Bertie Wooster as a very quirky, upper class dandy whose issues, problems, and predicaments are often remedied by his low-key, clever valet, Reginald Jeeves. The book is set in New York, not London, pitting Bertie’s often ill-conceived plans to come to the rescue of his many friends, or get himself out of hot water, against Jeeves’ common sense and insights. When confronted with an issue, Bertie is quick to devise a plan of action, but he learns that in all things, especially men’s fashion, Jeeves knows best! Wodehouse’s writing is an engaging melodic prose with extended and very expressive descriptions and incorporating well the vernacular, mores, and style of the 20s. Bertie is a hoot, and [shouting loudly] I want a “Jeeves” in my life! I can not say enough about the fantastic voice artistry of Jonathan Cecil whose ability to perform various British accents and American dialects along with energy and emotion is bloody brilliant! His Jeeves is subdued, and Bertie is energetic. I greatly enjoyed the audiobook.

Great Wodehouse stories

Another great collection. Mostly wooster and Jeeves, a few with another chappy. Wonderfully read by jc as always.

Lost my attention

This is a cute book, the characters are very endearing and the narration is excellent. My only qualm is the the stories are a bit predictable and ultimately couldn’t keep my attention.

Cecil and Woodhouse: a BRILLIANT Combination

Jonathan Cecil IS the voice of P G. Woodhouse characters....

He clearly rehearses such that there are no stumbles - I am transported to the Salon with the antagonist and sound tea as he rambles on. I am just trying to time my sips so that I don't spray at my new friend.

I greatly enjoy how the books refer back to characters in other books. I feel such a surge of joy when I recall the back story of a person, family, location. (the way you do when you are reminiscing old friends)

Always such fun!

So good!

The writing and acting are both top notch. It took me a little while to get into the cadence of the posh accent but once I did I found it hilarious.

Lots of fun.

Love OF Wodehouse, particularly when well read. Funny dialogue and situations with a vocabulary that exercises the brain.

Good, clean humor with a side of wit.

Jeeves is an excellent Valet with a quick mind and an uncanny knack of knowing everything about anything. Wodehouse is creative and masterful with his characters and their various quandaries.

I do like the narrator, and the English accent is 100% appropriate for this book. That said, between the older vocabulary and phrases and the English accent, I had to give it my undivided attention. That made it 4 stars for me as I often listen while doing house chores or driving.

We All Could Use a Man Like Jeeves

Wodehouse’s “Jeeves” stories never fail to make me laugh. As a big fan of the British series that was shown on PBS, I now picture. Hugh Laurie as Bertie Wooster and Stephen Fry as Jeeves. Forever more.

I read these books over and over and never tire of the characters. I think even I am afraid of Aunt Agatha. Gussie Fink-Nottle, he with newts, is always in a dither, and always amusing.

There are so many characters, most. of them in a fix, and somehow Bertie’s man Jeeves always comes to the rescue. Jolly good fun, what?
