Hundreds of Myths from Various Locations

I loved this comprehensive collection of Myths from all over the world, organized by ethnicity. Well written, well read and well worth adding to your collection if you have any interest in international mythologies.

The most awesome compilation

I’m not finish the book yet, but since I have listened to some parts previously, and some recently, I can say I am thoroughly enjoying it. I don’t know anywhere else to get a compilation of folktales like these. I love hearing the stories that inspired people like the brothers Grimm and other tales i heard as a kid.
The narrator does a good job and makes these books a joy to listen to.

pretty whitewashed

So disappointed, I thought we moved past this. I got to the Native American mythology part and I haven't even made it to any actual mythology and all They're talking about is how the natives needed to be managed and colonized.

Mythology: Ancient Myths Collection Vol.1

Each of the books included in this collection is good on its own, so having them together is a straight improvement. In addition to the collected stories, each book includes a historical introduction that helps provide context and deeper understanding of the contents. The narration is clear and pleasant, making this a very solid audiobook production.

Collection of mythic proportions

Nine books in one! I’m pretty sure this is the longest book in my library. Since this is volume one it is crazy to think that they plan on more. These myths and legends contained in this omnibus shed light on the cultures and peoples that they are written about. The narrators do a fantastic job telling these tales.

So so racist

The way that this collection speaks about Native Americans is gross. It repeatedly calls them savages and primitive and insults their intelligence. It’s not 1800 anymore. We’ve moved past this.

Additionally, every chapter starts about 2 minutes into the chapter. It’s not labeled correctly.

There are much better compilations that don’t degrade cultures arbitrarily.

Comprehensive Collection: Entertaining Informative

This is an amazing mythology collection! I had never read or even heard anything about mythology from some of the cultures represented here. Of course, there are the standard Greek and Roman, but when it starts getting into some of the other cultures it is amazing to learn of the similarities and differences. I have really enjoyed getting a view into the ancient lives of the many peoples represented here. This is a high quality audiobook and Mr. Johnston has a wonderful narrative voice. Well worth listening to.
