Resumen del Editor

Dora and her old enemy Lucy are paired up on the children's ward for the final three months of their training. The two nurses couldn't seem more different, but they may have more in common than they think, as each hides a secret heartache. And there are new faces. Jess is the feisty eldest daughter of a notorious East End family and determined to prove herself as a ward maid. New trainee nurse Effie can't wait to escape her small Irish village, and make her way as a nurse in London. But Effie's sister Katie soon begins to worry that Effie's behaviour is out of control. Nightingales on call and in crisis: have they got what it takes?

The magic is gone....

I didn't enjoy this one as much as the others-I'm not sure if it is because I accidentally read the next book before this one or if I've just reached a saturation point with these books.
Cons first: it is frustrating to read about misplaced loyalties (Effie taking the blame, Dora protecting her stepfather, Jess taking the blame) and silly characters. I can't think of anyone more infuriatingly silly and ignorant than Effie. I loved the first books about Dora, Helen and Millie and I had rather read about them than all these characters that pop up and take up so much time! I wanted some answered questions-what ever happened to the thug who practically stalked and attempted to rape Dora AND broke Nick's pelvis? Where is William, Helen's brother? And what was the great secret between Wliiam and one of the first year nurses? How did Helen's mother become so powerful when she is just the wife of a vicar?
Pros: great narration-I particularly like Dora and Nick's accent. I really liked these characters and would have loved to hear more about them. This narrator does a wonderful American accent and many more different accents all well done.
This isn't a bad book, I just want to hear more of the original three or four girls and less about temporary characters who are introduced at the beginning of the book and not again-what ever happened to the little boys from the ward? Did they ever see each other again?
It sounds like there may be more of these books in the future. Maybe by then I'll be ready for more.
