Resumen del Editor

What if Britain's royal family had been murdered after World War One?

It’s 1919, and an atrocity with worldwide implications plunges a returning WWI veteran straight into a new fight—against the rise of the Nazis and a mysterious multiverse-bending professor determined to help the monsters. But why?

The Great War is over, and Major Arthur Bridgehead, VC, DSO, MC, is finally going home, but why does the British Empire's most decorated war hero feel so dejected? Is it because of the horrors he witnessed, the men needlessly slaughtered, the pointless loss of life for so little gain? Or is it as the new Lord Bridgehead, Arthur fears his life is about to go from the extreme to the banal?

Noblesse oblige would appear to be his Lordship’s fate, but if Arthur thinks that involves little more than falling asleep on the backbenches while his fellow parliamentarians decide the empire's future, a certain sub-atomic-particle-hopping professor is about to make our hero an offer he can’t refuse.

For this world faces a new threat, and one no bullet or bomb can stop.

Keeble does it again!

My first foray into Alec Birris' fantastical world was made even more pleasurable by the performance of Jonathan Keeble. As much as anything, Keeble brings Birri's view of post-WW1 England ( albeit in an alternative history fashion ) to life with a variety of creative accents and nuance. The story arc, rich as it is, takes something of a back seat to Keeble's rich reading. Highly recommended! ( Note: I was provided a no-charge copy of this book in exchange for an honest, authentic review, which this is.)

Gripping, intriguing, believable alt-history

Without question – Alec Birri will become noted as one of the greatest authors of Alternative History in Western literature.
'Officer, Gentleman, Monster' demonstrates Alec Birri’s ability to create an immersive, believable world that is addictive - from the characters to the setting - the reader is immediately intrigued and left with burning questions until the very last page.
My first-hand experience of the 1998 Chiapas uprising led me to believe that there was too much fascinating non-fiction for one person to read and I absolutely eschewed fiction for decades until stumbling upon Birri’s equally addictive 'Condition' series.
As an author and former journalist – I cannot testify strongly enough to Birri’s skill as a writer, and creative mental agility – made even richer by his unique personal history.
To miss out on his work is to rob one’s self of some of the greatest work of our generation. I’m sincerely honored to be granted the to opportunity review an advanced copy and provide a thorough and honest review for all of those interested. You will not regret this read!

"Needling at the edges."

Presented with the Victoria Cross by King George at the end of the first world war, Major Arthur Bridgehead feels the guilt of that honour having been given to the wrong man, only to soon find himself in an even more elevated position after the murder of the British Royal Family. This book is a roller coaster of a ride of alternative history mixed up with a cosmology that defies description, at least by this reader.
Splendidly performed by the excellent Jonathan Keeble, I loved each twist offered as the world edged towards 1929. Has to be read to be believed: such fun. And highly recommended.
I was fortunate in being freely gifted with a complimentary copy, at my request, via Free Audiobook Codes. My thanks to the rights holder

Amazing and Complex

What can I say about a book with a concept so out of the box.
It starts off as a simple tale but morphed into a complex and twisted tale of multiverses .
I've listened to it twice and I'm sure I'll listen again. it is enthralling.
