A notary is an official who is appointed by the state government to serve the public as an impartial witness when it comes to completing a variety of official fraud-deterrent acts linked to signing important documents. The official acts are referred to as notarizations or notarial acts. Notaries are commissioned publicly as “ministerial” officials, which means they need to follow written rules without significant personal discretion.
