Acerca de esta escucha

Enter the enchanting world of Martha Morgan, a very imperfect heroine.

In 1796, Martha becomes the mistress of the struggling Plas Ingli estate, at only 18 years old. She is pregnant and suicidal. Though she loves her husband, David, dearly, she is desperately lonely in a strange house, and her quick wit and cutting humour make her as many enemies as friends.

There are mysteries surrounding the great fire that devastated the estate, but Martha's questions about it remain unanswered. Nobody else seems to realise that their haughty servant, Moses Lloyd, the disinherited son of the local squire, is not as trustworthy as the rest of the family would like to think. The local gentry consider that Martha is far too clever for her own good, and it seems inevitable that she will fall into a trap designed to send her to the gallows. How can she possibly escape?

Reseñas de la Crítica

"It has a page-turning plot, packed with adventure, treason, murder and passion, where the horrors in the drama are balanced by gentle scenes full of the warmth and love of the family at Plas Ingli." (Welsh Books Council)

Love, history, intrigue. Oh my!

I am only 6 hours into ”On Angel Mountain;” but I didn’t want to wait to encourage you to enjoy this sweet, yet strong, heroine with others. Historic fiction is not my thing and I rarely write reviews; yet, I previously enjoyed Brian John's descriptive writing, so I launched into this "On Angel Mountain" audio. It's been an opportunity to drop in on a lost time with local dialects weaving the story of a young woman who overcomes heroic challenges with spirit and ingenuity and with the help of unusual characters in her community in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Most of the characters are working towards the common goal of keeping a huge estate thriving. Those are the folks that keep hopeful and kind and keep perspective by observing and lessening the extreme poverty around them. But how would we know truly good people if we had never met the "dastardly" villan. That's as much as I will share. Enjoy your day as I must now return to Angel Mountain (aka Carn Ingli).
