Resumen del Editor

Pandemic!: COVID-19 Shakes the World: We live in a moment when the greatest act of love is to stay distant from the object of your affection. When governments renowned for ruthless cuts in public spending can suddenly conjure up trillions. When toilet paper becomes a commodity as precious as diamonds. And when, according to Slavoj Žižek, a new form of communism - the outlines of which can already be seen in the very heartlands of neoliberalism - may be the only way of averting a descent into global barbarism. Written with his customary brio and love of analogies in popular culture (Quentin Tarantino and H. G. Wells sit next to Hegel and Marx), Žižek provides a concise and provocative snapshot of the COVID-19 crisis as it widens, engulfing us all.

Pandemic! 2: Chronicles of a Time Lost: Žižek delves into some of the more surprising dimensions of lockdowns, quarantines, and social distancing - and the increasingly unruly opposition to them by "response fatigued" publics around the planet. Here, Žižek examines the ripple effects on the food supply of harvest failures caused by labor shortages and the hyper-exploitation of the global class of care workers, without whose labor daily life would be impossible. Through such examples he pinpoints the inability of contemporary capitalism to effectively safeguard the public in times of crisis.

Zizek does it again!

real critical theorists piss off both sides and synthesize ideas. Zizek out does himself.

The will not to know

Spot on. It’s a deep existential anxiety. An anxiety created by ingrained sense of free will. Not imposed from the outside.

Hey man! This narrator is not easy to listen to

Would have loved this, but sorry, the narrators intonation was too weird. Couldn't concentrate :/

Classic Zizek

If you like Zizek and have an affinity for his particular brand of euro communist politics then you will like this book. It’s good but I would not recommend it to someone who is new to Zizek and wants to understand his philosophy, instead read sublime object of ideology. But if you want Zizek’s take on the latest world events then this is the book for you. It’s very dense or theoretical but it’s the classic Zizek formula applied to new socio political conditions

Eh.

Zizek books read like the notes for a great book that he didn't actually bother to write. There are some real gems in here but know what you're getting into.

Perceptive, and great for those new to Zizek

Being a work centered more in the general philosophy and analysis of our current experiences in the Covid era, rather than a deep, surgical incision into a philosophical concept, these works make Zizek much more available and readable for the uninitiated. As always, a highly perceptive collection of insights into the current social and psychological landscape and hurdles imposed by not only Covid, but the impending crises we face and the inability of modern capital and social structures to deal with them in any way short of catastrophic and murderously negligent. Glad to see Zizek putting out books for current topics and opening himself more to the public, along with the insights and concepts of psychoanalysis and philosophy.
