Resumen del Editor

A thrilling new Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine adventure from New York Times bestselling author Dayton Ward!

2369: Shortly after Starfleet thwarts a Cardassian attack on a Federation star system, the Cardassian government orders an end to its fifty-year occupation of the planet Bajor. As a result, a newly installed Bajoran government requests immediate assistance from the Federation to mediate how the withdrawal will proceed and what recompense, if any, Bajorans are owed from their brutal oppressors. Captain Jean-Luc Picard is ordered by Starfleet Command to oversee these tense negotiations on Terok Nor, the massive Cardassian space station still orbiting Bajor, even as he still deals with his own recent trauma as a prisoner held and tortured by a Cardassian interrogator.

As these critical peace talks get underway, Ensign Ro Laren receives a call for help from a friend thought long dead, exposing an insidious secret from inside Cardassian space. Now, Picard and the crew of the Starship Enterprise must act to prevent an interstellar incident from reigniting deadly hostilities between the Federation and the Cardassians, and shattering any hope of justice for the Bajoran people…

Deep Space Nine episode #0

I was surprised this is Dayton Ward’s first Star Trek novel actually set during TNG or DS9. He is a mainstay Trek author and he absolutely nails the structure and feel of both series. Pliable Truths genuinely does feel like a lost episode, maybe more than any other Trek novel I’ve encountered. Each section felt appropriate to the characters’ respective series and seeing the connective tissue between TNG and DS9 explored was very satisfying. Now that a lot of this lore will (hopefully) be continuing with Star Trek: Legacy someday, filling in gaps in the storylines of existing series seems like the best place for new novels. Just keep em coming 🖖

A Wonderful Bridge!

A wonderful bridge between The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. A very engaging story! Petkoff reads the characters so well, which aids in visualization.

Another amazing story, as expected from such an author.

Should have been 4x longer. Very fun adventure setting up the premise of DS9, and whew.. what an ending.

TERRIBLE BOOK WITH FAIR NARRATION (A SUR[RISE)

This takes place in the weeks leading up to DS9 Episode 1. Not much was revealed that we didnt already know from watching the DS9 series. Why was it bad? It just went on and on with annoying dialog and absolutely no action, drama or suspense until around chapter 30. It was dry, slow, and boring. To say nothing of the fact that the dialogue just got me annoyed. How.any true "Trecker" could rate this babble as good is a head scratcher. Kira was not like the kira of episode 1 at all. Garick had his witty moments, Dukot was Dukot but otherwise, Keiko's dialogue was poorly written and just made me fast forward when ever she was on. Oh, and the author need to research more the get the various characters of the Enterprises ranks correct.

Now the narration. Petkoff is generally a good narrator and he has Picard, Worf, Laforfge, and Crusher down pat. But his narration of characters outside of his wheelhouse was terrible, especially O'Brian, Keiko, and Kiera. He should have watched more old episodes to get it right. It was a difficult listen. If a book is really good, I will listen over and over. I listened to the "Pray" trilogy so many times I can recite the narration. Ditto for "Captian to Captian" trilogy. In the other universe, I listened to the "Thrawn Ascendency"trilogy probably 20 times as well as "Thrawn"/ This one, I sent back to the bin.
