They watched the whimpering and agitated shadow of a man trudging aimlessly through the black post-midnight streets of the North. He actively avoided the yellowish light of lamp posts threatening to announce the depths of his despair. The groaning and mumbling of inaudibles, apparent by the broken puffs of condensation when his warm breath collided with the frigid night air. His own hands attacked his body in jerking motions in the form of swats, scratches, and hugs.

He kept going, fighting the collapse of legs weakened by the intense tingling that shot up from his toes to his hips and back down again. Rounding a corner he saw a house. A house like every other in the North. Painted in pure white that shone like a beacon even in the darkness. The pitiful, desperate, whimpering man was silenced.
