Resumen del Editor

Many years ago, a group of travelers took a doomed trip through Hell, Texas. Not long after their fateful journey, the town was discovered by Texas DPS Trooper Garrett Parker. Garrett was promoted to Texas Ranger as a result of his heroics. Over a decade has passed since that fateful day. Yet something terrible is happening again.

Motorists are vanishing without a trace and now children are disappearing from El Paso in record numbers. Garrett is sent back to the area to investigate. There is no way a town like Hell, Texas, could still be functioning, but he can't help the impending feeling of dread as he Returns to Hell Texas.

It Is What It Is, Extreme

"Return to Hell Texas" slightly reminds me of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" on A LOT of steroids. It's pretty sick but if you were to take the gross parts out, this isn't bad writing. There are many places that are hard to listen to.

It's as scary as the title says, especially if you've ever been in that part of the country where there's pretty much nothing. Desolate.

David Quimby's narration was excellent. He's a very versatile voice actor who's able to separate the characters out with ease. Overall, he did a great job with this story.

Not for the weak stomach. Extreme horror

This is EXTREME horror. I squirmed and shuddered I cringed and I'm pretty sure I threw up a bit in my own
Mouth as I listened And imaged some of the scenes. Absolutely horrifying and terrifying in its gritty disgustingness. Extreme characters extreme scenes. If you can stand it it's great. It is what it advertises to be. If you can't take it for that don't pick it up. If you can it will shake you to the core. OMFGosh! Sick, Twisted, and Warped ~ I Love It!!

Would you listen to Return to Hell Texas again? Why?

Absolutely! I already have listened to it more than once. Why? Because it is a warped story and I appreciate the narration.

This second installment of Tim Miller's Hell Texas Series is something else. The more I listen to Mr. Miller's stories of horror ~ the more I fall in Love with his writing style. Crisp, clean, and very picturesque.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hard to say. They are twisted. If I had to choose it would be Lacy. Why? Because of the scenes she was in.

Have you listened to any of David Quimby’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first time I have listened to him. David Quimby is Amazing! The way he vividly presents the various character's voices and keeps them straight is outstanding. Gotta Love that in an audio book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, the scenes with Lacy and Rufus.

Any additional comments?

Holy SNAP! That was not the ending I expected either... It freaked me out... it was better.

Horrific and Twisted

I am a little on the fence about this one. I don't usually shy away from blood and gore, but this book had me squeamish and wanting to fast-forward through some parts. I hadn't read or listened to the first book, Hell Texas, so I wasn't aware of what I was getting into. I have to agree with another reviewer who said that there was no payoff in the end. I kept expecting at least one of the "good guys" to make these people pay; for good to trump evil in the end, but that didn't happen. Without a redemption in the end, I feel like I was just bombarded with gratuitous sexual and violent scenes. I know this is strictly a matter of taste, so I still gave the book 3 stars because the writer clearly is talented at this genre (even if he has a sick and twisted imagination...lol). The narrator was great...no complaints there. His voice was perfect for the book and his character voices were nice. Nothing too over-the-top or unbelievable to draw away from the story.

I received this ebook at no charge via AudioBookBoom in exchange for an honest review, so my honest opinion is this: Heed the warnings. This book is very graphic and violent, so if you don't have a stomach for that, you will not enjoy this book in any way. If, however, you like that sick and twisted stuff, you will enjoy the heck out of this, as long as you aren't looking for a happy ending.

Don't Ignore The Warning: It's EXTREME

This is a story meant to push your buttons, especially your senseless violence button.

If you enjoy watching slasher movies and you root for the slasher to win - this is for you. If you think David Cronenberg movies or Chuck Palahniuk stories are too tame - this is for you.

On the other hand if you drive the carpool to a religious day camp please pick something else to entertain the kids.

Just Avoid the Whole State of Texas

Whenever someone gives the warning of extreme horror I find that as a challenge. I have listened to a lot of extreme horror and pretty much most of it becomes centered around how much sexual and physical torture can I put someone through. The one thing I think they fail to really capture is the plot sounding those actions and a solid description that has the words describing the action that captures the moment in a way that even while listening to the book, you have to close your eyes and wince. Fortunately, I didn’t think this book glossed over either of those and provided a truly extreme horror story.

This didn’t stray too far from your typical plot that you would have for your extreme horror story, but I found myself drawn into the town trying to understand their underlying motive. Felt like a town run by and populated by the Sawyer family. I unfortunately skipped book 1 in the series so I will have to go back to understand Texas Ranger Garrett’s role a bit better, but it played out well as a standalone horror novel. Can’t say I knew who to root for throughout the story, ultimately it was Garrett, but sometimes you end up rooting for the townspeople and sometimes their victims, this one was gruesome enough I was on the side of justice.

David Quimby did a great job with the narration. His natural voice was quite calm and soothing despite the nature of what he was reading. Really tricks the brain while listening to such a mismatched narrator for this story and I absolutely loved it.

Sadly, No Pay Off For Me

“Return To Hell Texas” is a short horror story that is at the extreme end of the spectrum with its horror and violence. This sequel takes place a little over ten story years after “Hell Texas.” Thankfully, you don’t have to have read the original story to follow and enjoy this one. Author Tim Miller seems to specialize in dark, extreme horror stories, which I don’t usually have a problem with. In this case I did. If I’m going to read/listen to a story with the level of extreme violence and horror found in Tim Miller’s work, I have to have a payoff at the end. I personally need the good guy to win, otherwise I feel like all I read/listened to is an exercise in depravity and not a complete story. If I can’t have a win for the good guy, then I need some ray of hope that the good guy will regroup and eventually stop the bad guy in the end. For me, it’s like that. The empire can strike back all it wants as long as in the end it still has to deal with the return of the Jedi. In the case of “Return To Hell Texas,” I endured all of Mr. Miller’s well written horror but got no pay off for my trouble. I must say, however, based on the overwhelming amount of good reviews for this story on Amazon, I definitely seem to be in the minority on this.

Wild, crazy and chilling.

This book is wild and twisted, in the best kind of way, kind of like something Rob Zombie would think up but not make a movie about because there is not quite enough blood and maiming. Wild characters and plotlines keep this story flowing, and David Quimby does a good job bringing the characters to life.
