Historia
The definitive biography of a legendary athlete. The Shrug. The Shot. The Flu Game. When most people think of him, they think of his beautiful shots with the game on the line, his body totally in sync with the ball - hitting nothing but net. But for all his greatness, this scion of a complex family from North Carolina's Coastal Plain has a darker side: He's a ruthless competitor and a lover of high stakes. There's never been a biography that encompassed the dual nature of his character and looked so deeply at Jordan on and off the court - until now.

All they had to do to get them was make history by drafting them and then figure out how to get them out of the Soviet Union.

In Stoops's journey from player to struggling graduate assistant to legendary head coach, it becomes clear that his dedication to football is about far more than the sport itself. Big Game Bob, as he is known by adorning Sooners, made a name for himself not only by rebuilding the OU football program and leading the team to multiple conference championships but also by adhering to a strong set of principles at a time when corruption was rampant across the NCAA.

Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Zito's career declined over the next few years until he hit rock bottom - watching from the bench as his team won the World Series in 2010. He was born in Beirut to two academics and split his childhood between California and the Middle East. Though he was an impressive shooter, the undersized Kerr garnered almost no attention from major college programs, managing only at the last moment to snag the final scholarship at the University of Arizona.

Remember the time the Mets lost an All-Star after he got charged by a wild boar? Or the time they blew a six-run ninth-inning lead at the peak of a pennant race? Or the time they fired their manager before he ever managed a game? Sure you do. It was only two years ago, and it was all in the same season. The Mets have an unrivaled gift for snatching victory from the jaws of defeat, and then snatching defeat right back again.

Lawrence "Yogi" Berra was never supposed to become a major league ballplayer. That's what his immigrant father told him. That's what Branch Rickey told him, too—right to Berra's face, in fact. Even the lowly St. Louis Browns of his youth said he'd never make it in the big leagues. Yet baseball was his lifeblood. It was the only thing he ever cared about. Heck, it was the only thing he ever thought about.

Resumen del Editor
Grab your seat next to a super fan who stopped at nothing to enter his generation's premier Chicago sports events.
This is your chance to experience the city's most memorable sports moments, from the two Bears’ Super Bowls, the White Sox pennant clincher in Anaheim and their World Series winner in Houston to the Blackhawks Game 7 disappointment in 1971 and the traumatic overtime win in Philadelphia for their first of three Cups. But it’s not just title thrills; you are also there for the dozens of ‘almosts’ that cloud the Second City’s grand sports tradition.
But more than a sports story, Root Root Root for the Home Teams draws from the personal experiences of a faithful fan. It is a tale of growing up a Chicago sports fan. It turns out there is more to sports than who wins and loses. A loving tale of a father who raised his sons to understand what sports teach us about family and what success in life really looks like.
Root Root Root is a love story of family, friends, and Chicago sports. For more than six decades, Tom Dobrez has been in the arena for hundreds of sporting events, along with his share of brushes with greatness. Come along as he chases Muhammad Ali’s Rolls Royce through his suburban hometown. Take a late-night shift, play Pop-A-Shot with Scottie Pippen, play 18 holes of golf with Toni Kukoc, and get a champagne shower from Mark Buehrle.
There’s plenty of heartbreak and redemption along the way. He losses his father on the eve of the Blackhawks’ Stanley Cup championship. He celebrates the memory of his brother at a Bears game and deals with the challenge of passing on his loyalty to his children despite his shortcomings as a youth sports coach.
With these and other moral dilemmas of parenting and growing up a Croatian in Chicago’s south suburbs, Dobrez weaves a raconteur’s storytelling skill with life lessons all gained from watching sports.

How did they achieve and sustain greatness - and what were the costs? In It's Better to Be Feared, Seth Wickersham, one of the country's finest long form and investigative sportswriters, tells the full, behind-the-scenes story of the Patriots, capturing the brilliance, ambition, and vanity that powered and ultimately unraveled them.

When the Detroit Red Wings were rebooting their franchise after more than two decades of relative futility, they knew the best place to find world-class players who could turn things around more quickly were conscripted servants behind the Iron Curtain. All they had to do to get them was make history by drafting them and then figure out how to get them out of the Soviet Union.

Historia
Every spring, Little Leaguers across the country mimic his stance and squabble over the right to wear his number, 2, the next number to be retired by the world’s most famous ball team. Derek Jeter is their hero. He walks in the footsteps of Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, and Mantle, and someday his shadow will loom just as large. Yet he has never been the best player in baseball. In fact, he hasn’t always been the best player on his team. But his intangible grace and Jordanesque ability to play big in the biggest of postseason moments make him the face of the modern Yankee dynasty, and of America’s game.

Does team chemistry actually exist? Is team chemistry as real and relevant as on-base percentages and wins above replacement? In Joan Ryan's groundbreaking audiobook, we discover that the answer to all of the above is a resounding "Yes". As Ryan puts it, team chemistry, or the combination of biological and social forces that boosts selfless effort among more players over more days of a season, is what drives sports teams toward a common goal, encouraging the players to be the best versions of themselves. These are the elements of teams that make them "click".

Legendary Dodgers Maury Wills, Sandy Koufax, Wes Parker, Jeff Torborg, Dick Tracewski, and Tommy Davis encapsulated 1960s America: white and black, Jewish and Christian, wealthy and working class, pro-Vietnam and anti-war, golden boy and seasoned veteran. The Last Innocents is a thoughtful, technicolor portrait of these seven players - friends, mentors, confidants, rivals, and allies - and their storied team that offers an intriguing look at a sport and a nation in transition.

Historia
When a group of private equity bigwigs purchased the Philadelphia 76ers in 2011, the team was both bad and boring. Attendance was down. So were ratings. The Sixers had an aging coach, an antiquated front office, and a group of players that could best be described as mediocre. Enter Sam Hinkie - a man with a plan straight out of the PE playbook, one that violated professional sports' Golden Rule: You play to win the game.

Historia
Pete Rose played baseball with a singular and headfirst abandon that endeared him to fans and peers, even as it riled others--a figure at once magnetic, beloved and polarizing. Rose has more base hits than anyone in history, yet he is not in the Hall of Fame. Twenty-five years ago he was banished from baseball for gambling, then ruled ineligible for Cooperstown; today, the question "Does Pete Rose belong in the Hall of Fame?" has evolved into perhaps the most provocative in sports, a layered, slippery and ever-relevant moral conundrum.

Great read/listen for us die hard Sports fans
For many of us, there is no denying how much love we have for our hometown Sports teams. This book does a masterful job of going a level deeper and connects the love of the game with the bonds of love it forms with our closest loved ones and friends over a lifetime. I found myself transported to some of my most sacred sporting event memories and that brought a tear to my eye; sports can be quite emotional!

Felt like a joy ride!
I’m from the Chicago area yet missed many of the “big” games described by Tom. Not only did I learn a ton about Chicago sports history but felt like I was present at THE game(s) with Tom thanks to the rich detail he beautifully weaves throughout. Enjoyed many laughs and have a renewed appreciation for the “game” of life. A++
