Resumen del Editor
"What happens when goofballs go to war? Most Soldiers aren't the Infantry Boys, "running and gunning". People have seen a one sided, violent representation of the war in Iraq. Some Americans leave for war straight from their neighborhoods and families. Many of these citizen patriots have wicked skills and low impulse control. Men shooting guns in dramatic fashion is a tiny fraction of wartime activity. The sizeable contributions of female soldiers in Iraq have been largely excluded in media. Engineers, military police, psych ops, aviation, transporters, commo, finance, postal, medical, staff pukes, the ash and the trash, itty bitty units that plan, man guard posts and make water safe to drink haven't been given their due.
Scoundrels in Iraq relates the gritty aspects of the strategic environment, but only to set the stage for the telling of me own improbable adventures. I inadvertently explained the result of the war, how and why ISIS appeared; still finding the ridiculous and funny in order to continue the march; providing a glimpse of the anguish of being separated from family, the worry of getting hurt and the fear of coming home when your loved ones have moved on without you. Soldiers fell in love. Spouses filed for divorce. Stowaways got sent home. This book is written about all of them.

From the winter of 2006 through the spring of 2007, 250 marines from Echo Company, Second Battalion, Fourth Marine Regiment, fought daily in the dangerous, dense city streets of Ramadi, Iraq, during the Multi-National Forces Surge ordered by President George W. Bush. The marines' mission: to kill or capture anti-Iraqi forces. Their experience: like being in hell. Now Major Scott A. Huesing, the commander who led Echo Company through Ramadi, takes listeners back to the streets of Ramadi in a visceral, gripping portrayal of modern urban combat.

As a senior non-commissioned officer of Delta Force, the most elite and secretive special operations unit in the US military, Command Sergeant Major Tom Satterly fought some of this country's most fearsome enemies. Tom is a legend even among other Tier One special operators. Yet the enemy that cost him three marriages, and ruined his health physically and psychologically, existed in his brain. Told through Satterly's firsthand experiences, it also weaves in the reasons for his career-long battle against the most insidious enemy of all: post-traumatic stress.

Infantryman Ruben Gallego and his brothers in Lima Company—3rd Battalion, 25th Marines, young men drawn from blue-collar towns, immigrant households, Navajo reservations—returned unscathed on patrol after patrol through the increasingly violent al Anbar region of Iraq, looking for weapons caches and insurgents trying to destabilize the nascent Iraqi government. Armored cars, burner phones, top-notch weaponry, and top-secret missions - this is the life of today's private military contractor. Like author Simon Chase, many PMCs were once the world's top military operatives, and since retiring from outfits like US Navy SEAL TEAM Six and the UK's Special Boat Service, they have devoted their lives to executing missions too sensitive for the government to acknowledge. Chase reveals here for the first time the operations too hazardous and politically volatile to be officially sanctioned by his employers.

When a viral apocalypse kills 97 percent of the people on the planet, the survivors' humanity is hanging by a thread. Amid the leftovers of civilization, ex-Army Ranger Jason Larsen is reminded of the meaning of hope, family, and loyalty by a dog and a young boy who are as alone as he is. The survivors he seems to collect become family, and that is very bad news for those who think they run the apocalypse.

From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. The Pentagon has officially confirmed more than 150 of Kyles kills (the previous American record was 109), but it has declined to verify the astonishing total number for this book. Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan ("the devil") and placed a bounty on his head.

The book puts you right there
Scoundrels in Iraq was a great audiobook! On a personal level, I served two tours in Iraq and it seemed as though every minute of the book made me say, “I’ve been there!” or “I’ve witnessed a similar situation”. I especially liked the fact that the book was narrated by the author instead of just a random narrator because it made the book feel like I was sitting down and swapping war stories with someone who knows what the hell he’s talking about. The book went through the full spectrum of making me laugh out loud to making think “that was some messed up s***, which was exactly how my experience in combat was.
All in all, anyone who served will get a kick out of this book. Anyone who hasn’t will get a realistic picture of what it was like over there.

Captivating Storytelling!
I’ve read the book and listened to the audio; I can’t wait for Scoundrels in Iraq to be a movie or TV series!
As a Navy veteran, I was drawn to the story of the everyday soldier doing the average jobs that kept things going, just like I did…I loved hearing the stories of how Kenny and his crew turned miserable circumstances into not just survivable moments, but crazy fun events like boxing matches. One moment I’m laughing and wondering how this guy could have been in charge with all of his crazy antics and misfortunes when he first arrived in Iraq; the next moment the tears are pouring as Kenny tells of injured soldiers and the heartache of missing home.
Kenny’s performance is equal to that of Orson Welles. It feels just like we are sitting down together having a beer and swapping stories….with sound effects!

A war story from a supporting point of view.
Most war stories are told be the soldiers who fight them, or their leaders. This one is done by an engineering officer. The author is also the reader, and he does a good job of both.
