Can a story written almost 200 years ago help us understand the modern world? In Searching for Goldilocks, Dr. Matt Kresl explores the search for “just right” within and all around us. Basing his discussion on the Goldilocks Principle, a reference to the children’s fairytale Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Dr. Kresl focuses on how science, spirituality, and storytelling form a launching point to explore the concept of “just right” in everyday life.
Through his work as a clinical pharmacist, Dr. Kresl’s perspective on medicine and healthcare evolved into the journaling of his day-to-day observations as a parent, husband, and caregiver. The result is an exploration of what “just right” can mean and how words and phrases such as harmony, the sweet spot, equilibrium, or the middle way, show up in most facets of life, including how we cope with mental illness how statistics shape our decisions, and how we find novelty and familiarity equally attractive. Searching for Goldilocks is for the curious-minded reader who desires to understand how everyday interactions reveal fundamental personal and scientific truths.
