Resumen del Editor

In a world shrouded in shadows, where doubt is the only weapon, can one spy expose the truth? #1 New York Times and #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author Brad Thor delivers his latest high-octane thriller.

A mysterious cargo plane, flanked by a squadron of Russia’s most lethal fighters, has just taken off from a remote airbase. Closely monitored by the United States, no one inside the Pentagon has any idea where it’s going or what it’s carrying.

A high-level Russian defector, a walking vault of secrets that could shatter the West, seeks asylum in Norway. Across the continent, in the heart of Paris, a lone French agent stumbles upon a conspiracy so explosive it could ignite a global firestorm.

As alarm bells ring in Washington, the CIA’s most lethal weapon, Scot Harvath, is forced to choose between his conscience and his country.

You’ll be left breathless as Harvath is swept into a whirlwind of double agents, international intrigue, and heart-stopping chases.

Meandering plot and boring whodunit

This story has Scot shooting bad guys to help his girlfriend with a security problem. There's also a B-plot murder mystery in Paris which takes up about a third of the storytelling time. There's no relation between the two until the end when there's an "Oh, it was that guy..." moment that feels forced.

Scot's trajectory is haphazard as well. Typically, the Big Objective is laid out in the first act and the team slowly works to get to it. This time it's one thing, and then another slightly related, and then a detour... It feels like several stories stitched together instead of the usual SH novel.

I liked that the stakes are lower than previous stories and nothing truly outlandish or deus-ex-machina happens.

The inclusion of the Paris sub-plot takes up so much time that the other main characters (Nicholas, the familiar Carlton Group admins...) barely make appearances and don't really get their moments in the spotlight.

The narration is as good as always. Strong, different voices for the characters, although his female voices could be more distinct--they all seem to be variations of the Nicholas voice.

Good “Next in Series”

Another great addition to the series! Wish it had a little more action, but still a good read.

I enjoyed listening to book visualizing the places and the picturing the characters and what they might look like and knowing that they could be be very real in the espionage and terrorist world to ensure our safety even at the cost of their lives so I thank them for their service

Great book

I enjoyed that he finally got closure for his wife’s death, and that he was able to find happiness in the end. It’s safe to assume this maybe the last book of this series. I have throughly enjoyed all these books.

Thor does it again

As someone who enjoyed the last two installments, they still just didn’t do it for me. And I realized what was missing in those. Our favorite Norwegian with the thousand megawatt smile and Harvath’s team. Both of which make a big return in this book.

Harvath almost losing his life twice in this book is a sign of his age and some mild foreshadowing that he may be getting a bit long in the tooth. But as they say, it’s better to be lucky than good. I appreciate how Brad lets Harvath show his age, how he’s started making mistakes over the last few years. But the action is crisp, and we get plenty of intrigue in this one.

If I could make a couple of critiques, perhaps a few too many new characters to keep track of. But overall I was able to keep up. And it seems to me the author has lost track of how long President Paul Porter has been in office. Surely he can’t be up for reelection(as suggested), he’s been in office since the end of book 8. Plenty has happened since then, Harvath has definitely aged more than 4yrs which means Porter cannot run again. But I’m willing to let that go.

But overall a great installment and I enjoyed it.

Love these books

Love these authors that explore modern politics and possible scenarios. Fiction often doesn’t vary too far from the truth. really interesting and definitely a lot of fun. tickles the part of the brain that is curious about geopolitics and also satisfies the gearhead that needs the action and all the latest toys out in the world.

CLASSIC SCOT, BRAD, AND ARMAND

Exactly what I needed to help escape the nonsense and politics and wokeness of the world. Scot is a true American hero and continues to be supported by Armand narrating just beautifully. Thanks, Mr. Thor. Please get back to work and get us some more Scot soon. Much love.

Brad Thor goes Agatha Christie. EXCEPTIONAL

Combining the milieu of known characters, friends and foes, with many new, unique players, this complex thriller is, IMHO, the best of the "Scott Harvath" books to date. As would be expected, there is plenty of action and adventure framed with just the right amount of descriptor, personality, emotion, reflection, and meticulously researched background. BUT "Shadow of Doubt" places the listener (reader) into the role of Detective Poirot solving a multifaceted mystery every bit as complex as found in "Murder on the Orient Express". I had to re-listen to several sections more than once in order to keep up with the complex intrigue. WOW I will definitely enjoy this book several more times in the future, and, each time, will pick up even more detail.
The narration by Mr. Schultz is superb. I appreciate the variation between and constancy of each character's voice. In addition, he injects just the right amount of emotion and expression required for each situation.
In summary, a fantastic thriller combined with a truly complex mystery. BRILLIANT
