And when the lovely spy, La Marquesa, takes a hand in the game, Sharpe finds himself enmeshed in a web of political intrigue for which his military expertise has left him fatally unprepared.
Soldier, hero, rogue – Sharpe is the man you always want on your side. Born in poverty, he joined the army to escape jail and climbed the ranks by sheer brutal courage. He knows no other family than the regiment of the 95th Rifles whose green jacket he proudly wears.

Rupert Farley’s narration is excellent. Great story intertwined with historical accuracy. Sharpe at his indisputable Yorkshire best.

Engaging story and narration
This was a classic Sharpe novel, fun and engaging from start to finish. Cornwell found the right mix once again in this one between fictional personal story and important historical battle.
Rupert Farley is an all-time great narrator, who adds so much enjoyment on top of the great writing. Bravo!!
