Resumen del Editor

Noah Vance's life is turned upside down when he receives a letter asking him to become the guardian of his orphaned niece and nephews. Noah knows he can't care for four children and run his law practice alone, so he places an ad in the newspaper seeking an eligible she-wolf as wife.

Catherine Danielson arrives in Barton, expecting to hand over the care of her niece and nephews to their uncle, but when he begs her to remain until he can find a wife, she can't say no. She's put her life on hold to care for the children since the death of her brother-in-law. Another few months of waiting won't matter. It isn't as if there is a home and husband for her to return to.

As Catherine gets to know Noah Vance better, the boarding house awaiting her return and the career-focused life of a spinster appeal to her less and less. Unfortunately, her alpha has other plans for Catherine - plans that will destroy her dreams and ruin the life she wants to build.

A Hopeful story for the Heart

Story: The second installment of the Barton Pack series is just as entertaining and well written as the first. Jane doesn't hesitate to talk about the common tragedies of the post-war era when her stories take place. Jane's romances don't push the characters swiftly through their trauma, but rather journeying the reader with the protagonists as they adjust and develop and explore their relationship. Noah and Catherine also explore how they feel as individuals before embracing the feelings of each other. This gave me a more real feel to the story and the characters. Exploring the Barton pack along with the protagonists leave you wanting to meet more members and what they will do with the continuing trouble from those around them. Noah's grief and his journey to recovery and exploring what it is to be a father again is reassuring to those who have experienced grief themselves. Listening to Catherine's struggles to remain independent in a male led world is a reminder to how far we have come as well. A story I will revisit again for sure.

Narration: Garrick has a relaxing tone that was a good pair for the protagonist Noah. I didn't so much enjoy how he would slow down his speech and add pauses to the dialog of Catherine and the children. I'm not sure what the effect was meant to be, but it made it a little difficult to remain in the story. The pace of the story was slowed as well. I am not sure if it is because of the pauses in the dialog or Garrick's pacing in general. It was hard to discern. Overall it was a good listen regardless.

Civil War Impact on Wolf Shifters

This was a very interesting take on shifters, the challenge and engagement of the Civil and slavery, the division of brothers. The story also explores the lives of children orphaned, the poverty after the war, women pigeonholed into only being homemakers and not permitted to work.
I really enjoyed the story line, however the H was a bit slow in figuring things out, thank goodness his Wolf wasn’t,until the end of the story
The narrator was my least favorite part of the audiobook, I had to speed it up as he was too slow and it dragged the story down. Listened to it at 1.5
I received a free audiobook and provide an honest and voluntary review.
