Reseñas editoriales

" Silent Child is a unique book, a shining light of hidden horrors and unbearable tension in a genre where it is always difficult to stand out. Emma's slow descent into hell from the moment her son disappears feels real enough to make you hold onto your loved ones that little bit tighter. Sarah A. Denzil masterfully carries the reader alongside Emma on a tortured mental journey: theories, conspiracies and increasingly justified paranoia as suspicion falls on everyone she has ever held dear. Along with Emma, you find yourself pointing the proverbial finger of accusation at a series of characters who once seemed safe. A visceral, darkly atmospheric listen that will make your heart beat, your mind race and your spine tingle." - Gabriel, Audible Editor

"A good audiobook for me is one that takes me on a ride that I never could have imagined, and Silent Child did exactly that. Sarah A. Denzil weaves a tale that starts with heartbreak, adds mystery and suspense, and ultimately becomes a thriller. The writing is superb and it created a blockbuster movie in my mind as I listened. Silent Child had me at the edge of my seat the entire time, and I even fell off a few times." - Sean, Audible Editor

"The premise is shocking and it compels you to find out where Sarah A. Denzil will take the story. But, where I think the author is truly genius is in the way she supports the central plot with some heartbreakingly real and genuinely flawed characters that were so obviously as fully developed in Denzil's mind as the thrilling hook that makes you choose the book in the first place. There's so much more to this one than first meets the eye." - Alexandra, Audible Editor

Resumen del Editor

Winner of Audible UK’s 2017 Narrator of the Year Award

Introducing Audible's Thriller of the Year: Silent Child by Sarah A. Denzil, performed by Joanne Froggatt.

In the summer of 2006, Emma Price watched helplessly as her six-year-old son's red coat was fished out of the River Ouse. It was the tragic story of the year - a little boy, Aiden, wandered away from school during a terrible flood, fell into the river, and drowned. His body was never recovered. Ten years later Emma has finally rediscovered the joy in life. She's married, pregnant, and in control again...until Aiden returns.

Too traumatised to speak, he raises endless questions and answers none. Where has he been? What happened to him on that rainy afternoon? And now that he's back, whom can he trust?

At Audible we love listening to crime books. But every so often one comes along that we think is truly special. An Amazon Kindle number one best-seller, Sarah A. Denzil's Silent Child is taking Audible HQ by storm. In an Audible Exclusive production, Joanne Froggatt (Mrs Bates, Downton Abbey) delivers a powerhouse performance that will keep you gripped until the very last second.

Tour de force by narrator Joanne Froggatt!

Silent Child is a very, very dark psychological thriller, the kind that can cause some to have nightmares. It is certainly not for everyone. However, as I try to decide whether listening was worthwhile, I must give the author credit for writing a compelling novel. And the narrator is fantastic.

Too Implausible To Be Completely Enjoyed

The Silent Child has a simple enough premise. A child disappears during a flood and is assumed dead, yet he reappears ten years later to the surprise of the entire town, especially his mother. His mother is 8 months pregnant and elated that her son has 'returned from the dead,' yet entirely frustrated that he is silent and will not say a word about where he's been or what's happened.

As the story progresses, we are faced with several different characters who are suspected of taking Aiden (The Child's name). We are led in about twenty different directions, but when the truth comes out, it's extremely convoluted and senseless.

I enjoyed 'Silent Child' until the final chapters when the mysteries were unraveled. I was disappointed in the end, and I have a feeling other avid readers will be too.

3 stars- worth the read, just don't expect great things.

Slow building but worthwhile

NO SPOILERS! Joanne Froggatt is spectacular as a reader, and makes this sad, psychological mystery worth listening to. The writing is very good, the actions and reactions of the characters are believable up to a point, and there is a lot of thrilling stuff as it builds to a close. I think you'll keep guessing, as multiple people are implicated in various crimes - is there a single GOOD person in this sleepy village? This is a very emotional, sad story which I would not recommend to everyone, so be prepared going in.

"get to the point!"

the main character screams at one point and I laughed out loud. Yeah, get to the point. You spent 40+ chapters walking through every other possible thought that could have ever happened ever and allotted 1 chapter to what actually happened to Aidan. One. seriously?
The story is very interesting but you will quickly learn where you can fast forward and not miss a thing

Ok I guess

Well the narration is ‘good’ I suppose but lots of shrill semi-hysterical dialogue that gets a little annoying after several hours. Also I kind of figured most of it out along the way so no big surprise really. And I found difficult to care much for the main character. Overall not a very compelling storyline.

Predictable

The narrator saves this book. The villain scenes are beyond cliche and the writing is not that suspenseful but it’s not a bad listen.

An eerie experience

I enjoyed the story because the author did a great job of making characters and situations where you could not help but feel empathy. kudos to the author for eliciting feelings of outrage, sadness and pure unbelievability. The narrator was top notch. Really well done.

Very good narration & story line!

I'm not one for long reviews so I'll make this short and sweet. The story hooks you immediately. The narrator was really expressive; just the right amount, too. It seems as the story goes along that nearly everyone is a suspect, and it was done very believably. As the story moves along, you just don't know who took Aiden or if you WILL even find out who it was. Really great all around-- my credits are precious to me, and I in no way regret using one for this! Well done.

Well written with great narration!

Well written with an easy to follow plot and an unexpected conclusion. Joanne Froggatt narrated it perfectly and Sarah A Denzil does an excellent job of allowing the reader to visualize through her descriptive writing. I listen to my audible books while drive to and from work and I found myself hoping for traffic to hear more of the story! I would definitely recommend this book!
