This course focuses on practical language usage at the CEFR A1 (beginner) level, so you can quickly apply what you've learned in real-world situations. By the end of the course, you can start understanding and communicating in Basque to enrich your travels.
Ideal for those who wish to connect with the Basque community or understand the region's heritage, this course helps you master the basics of one of the world’s most distinctive languages. As a complete beginner, this course will enable you to communicate effectively in Basque.
Basque is perhaps the most unique language in Europe due to its status as a language isolate. Its origins are enigmatic, predating the Roman period. This ancient language reflects the deep cultural identity of the Basque people.
The Basque language is primarily spoken in area that spans across northeastern Spain and southwestern France. In Spain, it is spoken in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country, which includes the provinces of Álava, Biscay, and Gipuzkoa, as well as in parts of Navarre. In France, it is spoken in the northern part of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department. By learning Basque, you will help preserve this significant and culturally important language.
