Un bello libro sobre el coraje
Yo era uno de esos niños que de pequeño pensaba que un héroe era ese soldado que se lanzaba contra un búnker y acababa con los nazis sin temer por su vida. Más tarde aprendí que mientras que para matar solo hay que apretar un gatillo o seguir unas órdenes ciegamente, para salvar un vida, tener piedad o compasión cuando uno tiene odio, se necesita mucho más, y eso es realmente coraje. Y ahí es donde entra este libro que es una oda sobre qué es ser un héroe, y de la cobardía de los que no cumplen con su palabra, que incitan a otros al odio pero luego no están, que crean destrozos que no están dispuestos a arreglar... Sí algo de esto te interesa, esta es una novela magnífica.

Una grata sorpresa que conecta por su historia
Es un libro muy, muy curioso e interesante. Dividido en tres partes, esta historia habla sobre el bloqueo creativo de Javier Cercas, el autor, quien empieza a investigar una historia y eso lo lleva a escribir un libro. Y esta es la historia de cómo surge ese libro, pero también lo que pasa en ese libro, lo que va descubriendo, todo enmarcado en la guerra civil española, que no puede ser algo más ajeno para mí.
Jamas estudié esa historia, ni me dio curiosidad investigarla. Ahora, quiero saber más sobre este evento historico y quiero leer a Roberto Bolaño. La capacidad de Cercas de involucrar al lector por el "suspenso" que se crea alrededor de la investigación es muy emocionante. A veces, tantos nombres y datos históricos confunden, pero es fácil seguir conectado a la historia, y en mi caso, también a la narración de Audible hecha por Sergio Zamora, con introducción y epílogo en la voz del autor.
Como el mismo autor lo dice en el epílogo incluido en 2015, ningún personaje es totalmente bueno ni totalmente malo, lo que hace la historia absolutamente refrescante e interesante. Empecé aburrido y un poco confundido por lo que pasaba, pero terminé encantado con la historia, intrigado con los personajes y enamorado del estilo de Cercas.

No soy español y por eso me ha gustado el libro
Si nunca ha leído un libro acerca de la guerra civil española, este es un buen lugar para empezar pues retrata de forma equidistante a republicanos y a falangistas desde una perspectiva a más de 60 años de distancia.
La voz de Sergio Zamora , sin embargo, no me agradó en las tres cuartas partes del libro, ya que tiene la voz de cartón, cuadrada y con un ritmo opaco y gris.
La mejor parte (o la que más me ha gustado) es la tercera parte, muy distinta de la soporifera segunda parte. Vale la pena llegar a la tercera parte.
