Resumen del Editor

Son of Terror: Frankenstein Continued is the ongoing story of Victor Frankenstein's immortal monster, focusing on his fascination with 21-year-old Mary Godwin (Mary Shelley's maiden name), an investigative journalist summering on an Island in Maine.

The story weaves through more than two centuries of time, beginning in the 1790s Arctic shortly after Victor's death.

The Frankenstein Monster in Maine

In Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, we last see the monster in the far north, "lost in darkness and distance" has he drifts away on an ice raft. Chanler's novel, Son of Terror, picks up where Shelley's ends. The monster, in addition to its strength and size, has far-outlived the human lifespan, surviving on animals in the forest, shunned and rejected by humans, occasionally killing them to avenge their hatred and rejection. The story takes place in the present day in the area of Penobscot Bay and environs (with a side trip to New York City), and a wonderful , horrifying, and poignant tale it is. With vivid characters, a spectacular setting, and a frightening and complex plot, I highly recommend this imaginative sequel.

A lovely homage

If you loved Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, you're going to find yourself fascinated by this new chapter in the story of the monster, now in America, connecting with a modern day Mary Shelly. The author's passion for his imaginative tale comes through the New England baritone of his narration. And his deep respect of the underlying work upon which its based is evident and heartwarming. I was also touched by the themes of compassion, tolerance, forgiveness, and more that thread through the work. I hope you will be too.

The Monster's Story Continues

I received this audiobook free at my request and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is one of my favorite novels of all time, and I've found myself drawn to reading others' continuations of that story. So far, I've enjoyed where other authors have taken the tale of Frankenstein's monster, and this take here by William Chanler is no different. Chanler brings the monster to America, and gives us a look at the Victorian world's reactions on the other side of the pond. I feel that Chanler holds true to the original spirit of Shelley's writing, and his admiration for her work shows through. I also like that he narrated this work himself, as you get a true sense of his passion for the project through his spoken word. Fans of the original should enjoy this work!

A clever follow on to the original Frankenstein

I have long enjoyed reading Mary Shelley's original novel Frankenstein and this cleverly created follow on by William Chanler clearly captures the essence of Mary Shelley's original writings. It brings its listeners to the shores of North East America spanning centuries apart from Europe. It is a cleverly thought out novel that Mary Shelley would, no doubt, have approved upon its existence had she still been living. Having the novel read by the author himself, a man from New England, brought a warm, calming presence to the ears. A great deal of time and effort obviously went into the production of this audiobook and it hasn't been wasted. I've enjoyed many hours listening to it. I might add, not because this was a complimentary sample offered to me.

Terror

I honestly didn't know what to expect from this book other than a modern day Frankenstein. To live as long as he has and never age, to love if that is what you call it and want a mate is nature itself. He comes to America hides in the woods living on wild animals and the land.I found it facisinating that he could meet someone and than track that person miles away with just a thought from them, something he translates as liking him when in reality it was fear or just an odd person.
Another take on a modern classic well worth the read.
I received this free for an honest review from the narrator or author.
