Acerca de esta escucha

Spiggot, the consummate misanthrope copper, walks a fine line between lovable anti-hero and despicable bigot with very large shoes. His one redeeming feature is his beautiful partner, the seductively named Francesca Trout. She keeps her one good eye on the job, and her slightly gammy, less attractive other eye on her partner.

Spiggot is catapulted into his second worst nightmare when, on a stakeout to catch criminal mastermind, his soul is sent by means of an ancient artifact into a mad axe murderer's body, who is held captive in a maximum security residential hospital for the criminally insane... Sheez, you couldn't make it up. His only hope of redemption is to rely on his partner to help catch the villain. The trouble is he's in a nutcase's body, Trout didn't like him in the first place, he's got an insane copper after him and he's afraid of pirates... We can only hope this doesn't all end on a boat...

"Incredibly tasteless, shamelessly lowbrow, and very, very funny!" (Jeff Strand, author of Lost Homicidal Maniac)

Monty Python meets Carl Hiassen

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I recommend this book if you like British humor, silly tongue and cheek banter and the somewhat ADD way of story telling by two dysfunctional writers. Fortunately I like both Monty Python and Carl Hiassen, so although I did quite a bit of eye rolling, I actually liked this book. The story line was quite good, albeit unbelievable, but then it is set in the future, so who knows.

What did you like best about this story?

Like Carl Hiassen, there is an humanitarian tone to it. A lesson to be taught, this time against racism, sexism, homosexism, theism and a whole bunch of other isms. What it all boils down to is play nice with others and live your life with some tolerance of your fellow human being. Ultimately bigotry and racism are like diseases, even if you are not personally throwing stones, by spewing forth your racist opinions and comments, you still spread the germs of racism and cause the disease to spread. Walk a mile in someone's shoes / or body and you have to be changed.

What does Wayne Farrell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The villanous laugh, dialect, sound effects - definitely worked to this book's favor.

.

What did you love best about Spiggot: A Depraved Comedy?

I really enjoyed the interaction between Spiggot and Trout. The rookie and old timer. A classic pairing but this one felt new and different.

Who was the most memorable character of Spiggot: A Depraved Comedy and why?

Spiggot, of course. I loved all of the different senarios that he went thru as both himself and in the body of Harold.

Any additional comments?

Spiggot: A Dapraved Comedy is the story of Spiggot, a cop, who is transported by a magical pendant into the body of a crazed ax murderer. As he tries to figure out how to get back to his own body he must rely on the help of his current and former partners. Hilarity ensues as this all occurs. The book is set in the future and it took me a few chapters to kind of figure out how far in the future. I never really did figure out a date but that doesn't hurt the story line.

I would recommend this book to my friends who enjoy a little sci fi, comedy and a whole lot of dapravity.

I have listened to 2 other books read by Mr. Farrell. (The Ian Fleming Files Books 1 & 2). In those books Mr. Farrell was reserved, as the story line called for. Here in Spiggot, Mr. Farrell gets to cut loose with both the story line and characters. It was very nice to see another side of Mr. Farrell so to speak. It is the talented narrator that can perform such wildly diverse genres of books. I look forward to listening to more of Mr. Farrell's work.
