Resumen del Editor

Why do so many Black children dread going to school each day?

Why are so many Black parents dissatisfied with their children’s school even after moving to the suburbs or paying for private schools?

Why are so many teachers ineffective in educating Black children?

The answer is simple: American schools are not designed to educate Black children. Black children often succeed despite their schools instead of because of them. School can be a fantastic experience that propels Black students ahead in life, but only if both teachers and parents know what Black children's unique needs are and how to meet them.

Sumo Wrestlers and Supermodels will teach you:

  • Why America’s one-size-fits-all colorblind education model fails Black children.
  • How to create an environment that unlocks their full potential.
  • How to evaluate whether a school is effectively educating its Black students.
  • And much more!

You will love this audiobook because an award-winning educator with more than two decades in the classroom uses his personal experiences to provide easy-to-understand methods to save Black children from America's education system that too often ignores their needs.

An eye-opening glimpse into Education in the 21st

In Sumo Wrestlers and Supermodels, Joel Plummer has assembled what is obviously the result of years of wisdom, insight, and hard work as an educator. The points he is able to make help the reader to zero-in on the realities of educating African American students today. He does so with immense respect and profound power.

The expert delivery of narrator Othell J. Miller lends sincere credibility and vocal expression to Plummer’s many ideas, observations, and stories. I highly recommend listening to this book rather than reading it to yourself; Miller’s resonant tones are a perfect match for the author’s voice.

Excellent Book and Narration

Joel Plummer gives a toughly educational and helpfully practical assessment of education in America for African American youth. The journey is a bit painful at first (the truth is often hard to look at) and he then leads you through to practical steps we can take to improve the educational experience for African American children.

Would recommend for educators, parents, and those concerned with the educational system in our country.

Othell Miller, does an outstanding job as narrator of Sumo Wrestlers and Supermodels. The beautiful articulation of his words and his clear and concise method of delivery helps the reader visualize and better understand the story and messages of the author. I listened straight through the audio during a long drive and thoroughly enjoyed the listening experience and the knowledge gained from Joel Plummer’s experiences. Highly recommend!
