Acerca de esta escucha
There is a long-standing truth in the world of organizations: Talent wins! But how do you attract the best people? What do they really want? Based on his rigorous and extensive research, Mark Miller learned that top performers are looking for very different things than solid contributors.
In Talent Magnet, Miller uses a clever and entertaining business fable to share these findings. He tells the parallel stories of Blake Brown, a CEO struggling with winning the war for talent, and Blake's 16-year-old son, Clint, who is trying to get his first job so he can raise money to buy a well for a village in Africa.
Blake reaches out to leaders in other industries and works with his team to solve the puzzle of making his organization a destination for exceptional performers. But he also learns from his son. Listening to Clint and his friends compare notes on the companies they've worked for that summer, ranging from the awful to the inspirational, Blake realizes they want the same three things out of a job as any top performer in a Fortune 500 company.
Miller identifies these three critical aspects of a true talent magnet and explores the deeper meaning of each. He pulls back the curtain on what leaders can do to find and retain the very best people - a strategic need every leader faces.

"Years ago, I wrote about a retail store in the Palo Alto environs—a good one, which had a box of two-cent candies at the checkout. I subsequently remember that 'little' parting gesture of the two-cent candy as a symbol of all that is Excellent at that store. Dozens of people who have attended seminars of mine have come up to remind me, sometimes 15 or 20 years later, of “the two-cent candy story,” and to tell me how it had a sizable impact on how they did business."

Quick book with good content.
Story format tends to be easy to illustrate points but I found this to get old since the narrator was performing all the voices w/o much distinction.

Good info. Reading is a little irritating
This book really gives good information about hiring and retaining talent. The changing of voices during narration is a little bothersome but not enough to stop listening

Great book - poor narration
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator needs to seek another line of work! His corny accents and voice characterization actually detracts from the story and the message. One has to consciously get past his lousy effort to get the value of the book.

Simple formula for attracting top talent
If you are looking for how to attract top talent this book provides the formula, however, implementation will be what makes the actual impact in your business. I thought the talent magnet formula and simple of what top talent wants were excellent. The overall flow of the book was great and the story made it a quick read.
There were a few missing pieces in the audio book: 1. A pdf to show the images on page 126 and 128 in the hard cover edition. 2. To have included the about the research. 3. To have included about the author.
I would have liked to have seen an additional chapter that provided more detail on the actual research data (maybe in your next addition or a follow-up to this book?). I thought the narrator’s various voices for the characters were lacking and sometimes sounded childish.

A great read with eye opening material
Talent Magnet was a great listen. I really appreciate a lot of the practical things addressed in the book that lend to attracting top tier talent. I’ve seen many of these core competencies in great organizations I’ve worked for in the past.
I’m not a fan of the narrative style of presenting the material, but the points were well made.
