Acerca de esta escucha

The Apocalypse Code is a call to understand what the Bible really says about the end times and why how we understand it matters so much in today’s world.

Breaking the code of the book of Revelation has become an international obsession. Hank Hanegraaff, president and chairman of the Christian Research Institute, believes the result has been rampant misreading of Scripture, bad theology, and even bad politics and foreign policy. Hanegraaff argues that the key to understanding the last book of the Bible is the other 65 books of the Bible—not current events or recent history, and certainly not any complicated charts.

The Apocalypse Code offers sane answers to some very controversial questions:

  • What does it mean to take the book of Revelation (and the rest of the Bible) literally?
  • Who are the “Antichrist” and the “Great Whore of Babylon”, and what is the real meaning of “666”?
  • How does our view of the end times change the way we think about the crisis in the Middle East?
  • Are two-thirds of all Jews really headed for an apocalyptic holocaust?

This book is a call to understand what the Bible really says about the end times and why the way we understand it matters so much in today’s world.

Worth the read to understand fulfilled eschatology

The author reads this. He speaks very slowly at times then more normal. I put this on a faster speed. I am repeatedly disappointed that authors on end times keep failing to mention the most obvious connection, the Song of Moses in Deuteronomy 32 and being sung in Revelation. He missed this too. But still worth the read.

Informed

Couple things… It is an interesting format in which he uses acronyms to lay out his points. That’s neither a plus or minus - that the book is very informative and very well notated with sources. If you read it, you might not pick up on the nuances, if the sarcasm that Mr. Hansgraffe has … But at times his voice is somewhat slow, for impact- not everyone will be a fan. I didn’t find it that bothered me that much. I loved the book. It was very informative. I learned a lot from it.

The End Times Explained

Hank as always lays out the logical, rational method for interpreting scripture. I had no idea Tim LaHaye pushed the insane idea that Christ Himself would preside over sacrifices in a third temple.

You… doesn’t mean “You”!

I had high hopes he would explain Revelations. He did not!

First: God’s dimension of time is “now”!

“But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Example:

“again he appoints a certain day, “Today,” saying through David so long afterward, in the words already quoted, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.””
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬ ‭ESV‬‬

If “Today” could be a thousand years. “near” could also be many generations.

“Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is “near”…. Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen. “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.””
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬, ‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Christ’s Coming…

“Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers…
Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming.”
‭‭2 Thessalonians‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬, ‭3‬-‭4‬, ‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Note: Antichrist/man of lawlessness takes his seat in God’s temple…

Whom The LORD will reveal at the breath of His coming…

Note: This has not happened yet!

After the Tribulation and at Christ’s coming…

*““Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. **Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. ***And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24‬:‭*29‬,**30,***31‬ ‭ESV‬‬

incoherent

I used to listen to HH on the 90's. This was a disappointment. It was a vendetta against theologians with whom he disagrees, it bounced around and hard to follow a coherent msg. He skippped important chapters of Rev (unknown why). I am asking for my money back. oh and the speaking was horrible, I had to put the speed to 1.25 inorder not to fall asleep.

An attack on other eschatological authors

I had to return the book. I tried to power through, but this book just throws contempt and disdain at two particular authors of books on the events of Revelation. If there were good points where other authors' explanations of end times events fell short, those points were lost in the scoffing.

I don't completely agree with the particular explanations of any single person's interpretation of end times events, including the two attacked authors, but that is why I wanted to read this book, to fill in some of the gaps. But it seemed like the author forgot God in the writing of this book; he focuses on knowledge and research, rather than praying for wisdom and understanding from God through the Holy Spirit.

Whatever the exact events of Revelation, only God knows at this point. I will say the Left Behind series that this author attacks so much served an important purpose in many people's lives, including my own as a teenager: it was the first introduction I ever had about the end times and the book of Revelation. The accuracy or inaccuracy wasn't key, it was the draw to find out more. It lead to my study of many books of the Bible where I was able to form different ideas than those strictly presented in that fictional series. I believe that God uses prophecy to reach people, not just to be academically studied.

From 2 Timothy 2:14‭-‬19 LEB:
Remind people of these things, solemnly urging them before the Lord not to dispute about words. This is in no way beneficial and leads to the ruin of the hearers. Make every effort to present yourself approved to God, a worker having no need to be ashamed, guiding the word of truth along a straight path. But avoid pointless chatter, for it will progress to greater ungodliness, and their message will spread like gangrene, among whom are Hymenaeus and Philetus, who have deviated concerning the truth by saying the resurrection has already taken place, and they are upsetting the faith of some. However, the solid foundation of God stands firm, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and “Everyone who names the name of the Lord must abstain from unrighteousness.”
