Resumen del Editor

A “superb fantasy saga” (Helene Wecker) of martial arts and magic, about what happens when a prophesied hero is not the chosen one after all—but has to work with a band of unlikely allies to save the kingdom anyway, from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Lives of Tao

“An ambitious and touching exploration of disillusionment in faith, tradition, and family—a glorious reinvention of fantasy and wuxia tropes.”—Naomi Novik, New York Times bestselling author of A Deadly Education

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: Gizmodo, Kirkus Reviews, The Quill to Live

So many stories begin the same way: With a prophecy. A chosen one. And the inevitable quest to slay a villain, save the kingdom, and fulfill a grand destiny.

But this is not that kind of story.

It does begin with a prophecy: A child will rise to defeat the Eternal Khan, a cruel immortal god-king, and save the kingdom.

And that prophecy did anoint a hero, Jian, raised since birth in luxury and splendor, and celebrated before he has won a single battle.

But that’s when the story hits its first twist: The prophecy is wrong.

What follows is a story more wondrous than any prophecy could foresee, and with many unexpected heroes: Taishi, an older woman who is the greatest grandmaster of magical martial arts in the kingdom but who thought her adventuring days were all behind her; Sali, a straitlaced warrior who learns the rules may no longer apply when the leader to whom she pledged her life is gone; and Qisami, a chaotic assassin who takes a little too much pleasure in the kill.

And Jian himself, who has to find a way to become what he no longer believes he can be—a hero after all.

Reseñas de la Crítica

The Art of Prophecy is an ambitious and touching exploration of disillusionment in faith, tradition, and family, and but also unexpectedly funny. I loved following Wesley Chu’s intricate narrative through this sprawling universe full of glorious reinvention of fantasy and wuxia tropes.”—Naomi Novik, New York Times bestselling author of A Deadly Education

“In this superb fantasy saga of tough, old martial-arts masters and inexperienced young heroes, Wesley Chu has given us a richly inventive page-turner that delights on every page. The Art of Prophecy is Wesley Chu at the height of his imaginative powers, and I can’t wait for the next installment!”—Helene Wecker, author of The Golem and the Jinni and The Hidden Palace

“Electrifying, thrilling, and a glorious, romantic ride, The Art of Prophecy is a true delight. Readers won’t be able to put it down.”—Robert Jackson Bennett, author of The Founders Trilogy

Fun world colorful cast can't wait for more.

Great first installment of a vibrant world and exciting plot. Loved the diverse viewpoints we get to see the world from. Chu does a great job with pacing and enjoyed the over the top characters.

Natalie Naudus does great bringing the work to life. can't wait to see them all in the next volume.

It’s giving emperors new groove

Reverse mythological construct was really refreshing! The narration was incredible, and really brought this story to life. I’m excited for the second one.

Worth checking out for sure.

Book got off to a great start. A little slow in the middle but had a solid ending. Probably more like 4.5 stars but more people need to read and rate this book. It deserves more attention.

Refreshing story

Highly recommended. The book is easy to follow but knows when to add a twist into the mix.

A wonderful Adventure!

I loved this book! As a martial arts practitioner I found it to be a wonderful adventure. There isn't nearly as much marital arts fiction out there as you would think so it's always exciting to find something new! I can't wait for the next book!

Legendary in its own right.

You know when you start to read something and end up binging it instead? That's this kind of book.

Not a single word is wasted, fluff is nowhere to be found. The rich, captivating world created is as engaging as the characters are endearing and it isn't hard to get attached.
Even more impressive is how Wesley Chu captures the human quality of its characters; which is nurtured by the nuanced balance of point of view. Villains? Heroes? Legends? Who is what and according to who?

"True Heroes forge their own destinies" rings true as Chu's writing invites the reader to explore the very human burdens behind the mask of expectations...and then explores what happens when that mask is taken away.

The only thing that could improve the voice narration is if it was an ensemble... I will be listening to this again.

A unique story with memorable characters.

While there are some tropes in this story that may be considered a bit cliche, they end up making the stpry enjoyably predictable. comfort food if you will.

I will say that the author has a thing against father and patriarchy. That doesnt make the book bad, but this goes beyond politics and seems to indicate the author really doesnt like dads hahah. while moms fair much better.

overall the narrative performance is good and well intoned. the drama seems real and kept me listening and interested.

Excellent!

I’m surprised this book isn’t talked about more. Every fantasy fan should read it, especially if you’re a little tired of European fantasy

Fighting Arts political fantasy story

I enjoyed this story of clashing cultures in a fantasy martial arts setting. The narration is excellent enough to keep you listening, although it was hard for me to hear anybody but Jessie from Team Rocket (Pokemon) whenever the character Qisame was speaking. Funny at times, in a modern way that doesn't fit the "historical" context, but also lots of fun fighting sequences.
