Acerca de esta escucha

On an island off the coast of Maine, a man is found dead. There's no identification on the body. Only the dogged work of a pair of local newspapermen and a graduate student in forensics turns up any clues.

But that's just the beginning of the mystery. Because the more they learn about the man and the baffling circumstances of his death, the less they understand. Was it an impossible crime? Or something stranger still...?

No one but Stephen King could tell this story about the darkness at the heart of the unknown and our compulsion to investigate the unexplained. With echoes of Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon and the work of Graham Greene, one of the world's great storytellers presents a surprising tale that explores the nature of mystery itself.

Come on - its the journey!

This book is made up of what Stephen King is famous for - developing characters that you get attached to. The hardest part about reading The Stand or The Dark Tower is when it ends and you have to say goodbye to all the characters you've become so accustomed to. If you're looking for a good mystery that has a clean beginning and end, go read Sherlock Holmes. If you want a short glimpse into the lives of two old men in a slow moving town and share their views of the world - you'll really enjoy this.

A pleasant read ...

Where does The Colorado Kid rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It was a pleasant story. I think I expected more from the story, but it was not bad.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

No, not really.

What about Jeffrey DeMunn’s performance did you like?

He was okay.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No.

It ended too soon!

Such an engaging story. Very much the kind of SK that is less well known to the masses. While I did love it, I was very unhappy with the ending. I don’t think it was wrong...just not what I wanted. I should have seen it coming.

It is amazing that they took this tidbit and developed Haven. I thoroughly enjoyed this book

Worth a read, but not so much a listen

The Colorado Kid gets mixed reviews from readers; that's to be expected from a Stephen King story that is short, has no overt supernatural elements, and leaves the reader with no answer to a mystery. King himself has made clear the story is an exploration of how people cope with NOT knowing everything, and to me at least, it's fine enough (and short enough) for an occasional re-read.

I did not enjoy the narration on this audiobook. Jeffrey DeMunn's voice came across soft and muffled so that I struggled to hear, even when adjusting equalizer settings. Further, his rendition of Maine accents felt strained. I personally feel audiobook narrators should avoid doing that sort of thing and leave it to voice actors if it's really needed.

Anyway - thumbs up on the written story, down on the audio version.

Favorite

Love all of King’s books and stories but for some reason this is a favorite. And Jeffery makes it the perfect listen.

Not a story as such.

First if you are looking at this because the new TV show Haven says it's based on it then you should know only a couple of characters were LOOSELY based on characters in this book. This book gives you no back story to the show.

Second this is more of a commentary about the difference between stories and true mysteries. As they often mention in this book, this story has no plot or "through line" as they put it. I would not say the book is bad but if you are looking for a "story" then keep looking.

Spoiler Alert

It's an okay story but if you're a fan of the TV show "Haven" this has nothing to do with it. So I feel a little duped. but that isn't Audibles fault.

Darn you Stephen King and your false expectations!
