The Cowgirl and the Racehorse offers a moving, intimate, and richly descriptive memoir of the relationship between a girl and her horses. Beginning with her account of a traumatic horse-riding accident, Wells reflects on the personalities and characters of the many horses - both real and fictional - that have accompanied her through often difficult life experiences, teaching her strength, resilience, discipline, care, and trust.
The Cowgirl and the Racehorse is also a scholarly reflection on the many cowgirl narratives - films, music, and books - that have marked the author’s life passages, and which offer complex and compelling images for girls as they grow: particularly in terms of their independence of spirit and the social and familial expectations with which they are burdened. Finally, The Cowgirl and the Racehorse is a detailed examination of the ethical and societal questions raised by the sometimes dangerous and cruel, and sometimes seductive and compelling, world of horseback riding.

Sonora Carver (1904-2003) was a circus entertainer and one of the first female horse divers. In the arresting autobiography A Girl and Five Brave Horses, Sonora tells her life story. Her sensational act was mounting a running horse as it reached the top of a 40-foot or 60-foot tower and sailing down on its back as it plunged into an 11-foot pool of water below. In 1931, she was blinded due to hitting the water off balance with open eyes while diving her horse. After the accident, she continued to dive horses until 1942.

That's not Mark Rashid's view. If you are into feminist then you might enjoy it.
Some good points about horses but so many stereotypical thoughts and comments from rodeo to truck drivers. All men are pretty much bad and subdue women. The writing jumped all over the place and the reading didn't help it as sentences did not end at periods but went on and stopped at awkward places. A lot of self indulgence as she did "horrible" things to horses when she was younger but now know it all and harshly judges all other methods. I wanted to hear it to the end but it was torture at times.

Scattered and the narrator is off
The narrator can't seem to get the sentence structure or cadence correct. Very scattered and difficult to listen to.
