Stellar Storytelling!!

I read primarily non-fiction, but chose this on the recommendation of a friend. I was captivated from the Prologue. The writing and the storytelling are deftly crafted and the character performances for the audiobook are incredibly well done—especially those of Auddie and Grey Wolf. This is among the greatest Western tales I’ve ever consumed through any media. I offer my heartiest approbation to my new favorite non-fiction author, Jeremy Spillman!!

enough said. amazing storytelling of rock and roll, revenge, and the old west. Masterfully produced and well written. Saddle up and enjoy this bucking bronco of a book.

Great story!

A true Wild West tale with all the trimmings. Spectacular music. I would expect nothing less from Spillman. Great musical lyricist; I’d like to see a sequel with …-no spoilers here. I found it hard to stop listening so I lost some sleep and put off some chores but it was worth it. I only wish the female voice characters had a little more variety. It sounded like one female voice for all the characters. Note- I am a huge fan of Eric Church and his music so it was an obvious choice for my must reads.

Must listen.

What an experience. This isn’t just someone narrating a book… this is an experience. The cast is so well voiced and engaging. You really fall in love with/hate the characters in the book and become completely immersed in the story and the world these characters live in. An incredible, heartbreaking, epic story, coupled with authentic, raw music that just elevates the whole thing. A must listen.

Movie worthy

This book needs to be made into a movie!
Loved how the characters were read by different people. Great story line!

Everything you want in a book...and then some!

Admission time - I bought this book because Eric Church promoted Jeremy Spillman's book (and reads the introduction) as a co-writer on some songs, so I thought "the guy must be ok" and little did I know how much better than "ok" the author is! Westerns are the last genre I'd pick up in a pile of free books, much less one I'd spend one of my valuable credit on, but boy was I surprised at how entertaining this was from the get-go! The DeVine DeVils was one of the most interesting audio books I've ever listened to. If you're a fan of Silverado, Tombstone, or Young Guns, you'll fall in love with every character in this book. The writing (the man is a professional songwriter) has a way with descriptions like no other; his character development and storyline are wonderful - I honestly FELT for the characters in this book. I was super sad when I realized I had a few chapters left, but I couldn't wait to hear how the story wrapped up. There is no other audio book like this I've come across - the blend of (his own) music, and acted-out roles - it was more like a play in your ears. It's fantastic. I can't wait to listen to it again.
