Acerca de esta escucha

Jo Beverley continues her winning streak with this brilliantly woven tale of romantic intrigue.

Returning home from the battle of Waterloo, Major George "Hawk" Hawkinville discovers his father has squandered away the family estate. To keep his home, Hawk decides to marry Clarissa Greystone, a contemptuous gold-digger, who’s vast fortune isn’t her only asset.

Simon Prebble and Jo Beverley Are Wonderful!

Where does The Devil’s Heiress rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is one of my favorites. The hero and heroine are well written. He has just returned to England after Waterloo and trying to adjust to civilian life. She is trying to recover from an abusive relationship involving her family's' trying to force her to marry a truly evil man who mysteriously turned up dead. Did she kill him for his money? He was not the type of man to leave his wealth to a fiancée and yet his will seems to indicate he did that. The skills Hawk learned trying to gather intelligence during the Napoleonic War are put to use trying to determine whether she is as innocent as she first appears.

Simon Prebble doesn't just narrate the story, his wonderful voice creates the atmosphere and pulls the listener into the story. This story is perfect for his talent.

Who was your favorite character and why?

George "Hawk" Hawkinville. He is brilliant, thoughtful, a true and loyal friend and a dangerous enemy.

Have you listened to any of Simon Prebble’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've never been disappointed with any of the audible books I've heard him narrate. Even when some of the storylines were not as strong as others, he has the ability to bridge the areas of weakness and keep my interest.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely. It is hours long but it is a page turner.

Any additional comments?

Just writing about how much I enjoyed it makes me want to listen to it again. :)

Perfection!

First, I love Simon Prebble. Second, the H/h are well developed characters who do not get bogged down in a series of misconceptions and misunderstandings, but rather understand and overcome the rote issues of low self esteem (h) and duty (H). Third, though this is a stand alone book it does re-introduce characters from previous books and series. I like this as I love to know "the rest of the story".

Continuing Saga

What did you love best about The Devil’s Heiress?

This book is enjoyed most when one has read all the preceding books in the series. It can be enjoyed as a stand alone, however it is much better in the context of the other books.

I love historical romance.

What did you love best about The Devil’s Heiress?

The main characters

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Devil’s Heiress?

How the main character needs to marry to save his estate and the people who live there.

What does Simon Prebble bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He makes you feel the strain of the descissions that have to be made by the male character.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When the heiroine does not give up.

Any additional comments?

This book was more interesting than the reviews would have made you think.

The Devil's Bride

I love the series; however, this story was a little long winded. Still, a must read to explain lose ends from the previous books.
