Resumen del Editor

The employee of today is an anxious and scared individual. At the heart of the employee’s problem, are expectations that can no longer be fulfilled by employers in the current economic environment. I call these expectations "The Employment Illusion”.

These expectations include perceived entitlements such as job security, health care “benefits” and retirement “benefits". They are fueled by adopted cultures, which have been promoted for many years by employers/Institutions. The promoted cultures have served two purposes for the institutions, they made it easier for them to attract employees, and have also generated revenues for the companies.

For the population, however, the end result of these adopted cultures is an individual who justifies their entitlement mind-set via claims that they have valuable skills and experiences needed by the institutions. With today’s technological advances and changing economic environment, the value to the institutions of these skills and experience is rapidly eroding.

These cultures are now “back-firing” on both employee and employer, as a new economic environment emerges. The result is an acrimonious relationship between employee and employer which negatively affects both parties.

The employee’s fears, stem from an inability to adapt to the new economic realities. After years of adopting cultures that have made them dependent on institutions for their everyday needs, they find themselves ill prepared for the new reality of uncertain and shrinking employment opportunities. The fastest growing opportunities in today’s economic environment are temporary consultancies and entrepreneurial opportunities, which provide uncertainty in both revenues and continued availability.

In this audiobook, Prof. Ngarua analysis the adopted cultures that have made employees unable to transition, and how both employees and employers can change these cultures to allow for a better outcome for both.
