Resumen del Editor

Every journey begins deep in the soul where we make the choice to act. Ariah’s transformation from orphaned pony to Unicorn begins a journey of growth and a gathering of special friends to solve the evil that has darkened their world. Tarran prodded by an old man takes on his mother’s guest. Dariel upon meeting Ariah remembers ancient feelings and ties her life to the mystery of the Unicorn. The wolf, well he does what he wants for whatever reason he desires.

Traveling into new lands, Ariah gathers around her these special friends and many more to seek out and change the tide of darkness. Each adventurer brings their special gift and together they grow strong as their goal is revealed. Hardship gives way to purpose and all join in to fight the evil.

Intertwined throughout the journey, laughter fills the shadows and new relationships grow to include the wonderful mysteries of love. This love nurtured by Ariah blossoms within Dariel and Tarran and proves to be the final gift needed to destroy the evil.

Protecting the world from evil makes for journeys to different lands and more friends to meet and enjoy. Elves, man, Daranths and Zevronians all come together to find the light missing from the good earth.

The final confrontation brings Ariah, Dariel and Tarran to confront The Darkness. The battles throughout the lands held back its armies but would not defeat its presence. Holding hands and the gift of the Unicorn, the two walk into the fury and embrace The Darkness. Love not force of will conquers all.

3/5 stars

3/5 Stars The Finding by R.E. Joyce
Narrated by Vanessa Brooks
Run Time: 8 hrs and 35 mins
Summary:
The story starts with Ariah turning from a pony into a unicorn. She discovers that she has a destiny to fulfill, but first, she needs to go on a very long journey. As she starts, she collects others on a journey to fight the mysterious evil.

Tarran’s a hunter who wants to free the abused animals. Dariel is an elf (I think) who falls in love with Tarran.

Additional Comments:
- It’s mostly a kid-safe fantasy story. I had trouble connecting with it though.
- Maybe I just missed the part where they were coming together to go on their quest. I don’t get how they just happened across one another in the forest and each know they have a destiny to pursue.
- The narrator did fine, but she had some very strange pronunciations for several words: Cohort, perseverance, undulating
- Some story threads seemed superfluous. (The elven princess being captured. The inquisitor’s quest and fate.)
- The Darkness doesn’t have much rhyme or reason. It takes over elves and enjoys causing suffering, but the world domination goal isn’t clarified much beyond that.
- Pretty sure it’s supposed to be a metaphor for finding your own destiny. The blurb is pretty clear that love conquers all. In that sense, it just may be a tad more literary than I’m used to in fantasy.
- The end was a tad anticlimactic. There’s a huge epic battle but the ultimate way they defeat evil just seemed simple.
- There were some very cool battle scenes.
- Audio may not be the best format for this book since there are enough terms to warrant a glossary, which isn’t included (for good reason) in the audio version.

Conclusion:
Even though it wasn’t my favorite, it has a lot of elements that I can see it appealing to many others who enjoy YA fantasy.
