Disappointed

I agree with the others, this author doesn’t know the main character nor sufficiently explains various secondary plot points. However keeping the same narrator is a plus.

Needs to end.

I like the series a lot and was new to it. The first three was peak and the following 3 books were good too, but this is the worst of them. The story is Very disjointed, with lots of sub plots that seem to happen out of nowhere and make it hard to follow. It feels very choppy with things happening because the writer says it happens rather than the story unfolding naturally like in the previous books.
The characters seem lost and different, they’re losing their charm.
I just want it to end.

could have been better

I have been a big fan of the Lizbeth Salendar books and have enjoyed listening to them repeatedly. Like other readers I was disappointed. The story development was disjointed and hard to follow. The characters were not fully developed or as vivid as in the Stieg Larson books. The flashbacks also were confusing. Would be willing to give this writer another try. I think I will listen to it again. It might come together a bit more.

Not the best in the series

I have loved this series but the writing for this book was not good. It is scattered and becomes incoherent at some places. If this is where we are in the series, let’s not do another book.

Almost

But not quite as good as the previous books. I liked the story but it needed more …something, and a better ending.

What happened?

I thoroughly enjoyed the previous books and I feel like this one was a complete departure from the characters I knew and loved. Lizbeth is more like at 40ish year old heartbroken and child-centered woman than the amazing hacker who routinely kicks the crap out of people. Why is she pining for Blomkvist like a jealous dolt? Why has the author supplanted her with a 13 year old Nancy Drew knockoff? There are huge issues in their interactions and most of the interactions with the women in the novel. They are stereotypes and shadows of how someone thinks most women must act, feel, or think. Blomkvist has become a dithering, weepy old man. In all, I feel like I just the entire novel was an unsatisfying reduction of amazing characters into poor parodies of themselves. Simon Vance, as always, is an amazing narrator and I felt bad he had such a poor piece to work with.

Meh….

The complexity and intrigue are gone. Writing from a formula without the brilliance of the original author/creator. Really enjoyed the early work. This, not so much.

disappointed

Well, I might be done with this set of characters. I couldn't get into the storyline. It jumped around too much. Left several lines hanging.

Wait who is this now? Now what’s happening?

These are not questions a reader should be having in a book and this happened all too often. Half way through and I wished it was ending soon. The plot had merit, but this rough draft needed more edits prior to release. Felt rushed. Too bad.

No more, please!

I'm a big Salander fan. Loved the original trilogy. The later books, not so much and this one least of all. This book had such potential with the introduction of Salander's niece. However, it went nowhere and fast. And a grenade? Really? Don't bother with this one.
