Acerca de esta escucha
An undisputed masterpiece of twentieth-century literature, perfect for Fitzgerald lovers and classics collectors alike.
Set against a backdrop of jazz music, bootlegging, and lavish parties, The Great Gatsby is the story of Midwesterner Nick Carraway’s curious introduction to the decadent world of his mysterious, wealthy neighbor Jay Gatsby, whose thirst for riches is matched only by his tragic obsession with the beautiful Daisy Buchanan.
Penned in the “roaring twenties,” the novel continues to be the subject of numerous film and stage adaptations and has become a fixture in the American classroom. This dangerously propulsive tale of glitz and glamour continues to be relevant as listeners long for escapist novels—a chance to flee into Gatsby’s famed mansion and lose oneself in the rush of opulence.
The Great Gatsby audiobook is brought to life by Tim Robbins, famed American actor, screenwriter, director, producer, and musician.

One of the most revered works in English literature, Great Expectations traces the coming of age of a young orphan, Pip, from a boy of shallow aspirations into a man of maturity. Historia
Shocking and controversial when it was first published in 1939, Steinbeck's Pulitzer prize-winning epic The Grapes of Wrath remains his undisputed masterpiece. Set against the background of Dust Bowl Oklahoma and Californian migrant life, it tells of Tom Joad and his family, who, like thousands of others, are forced to travel west in search of the promised land. Their story is one of false hopes, thwarted desires, and broken dreams, yet out of their suffering Steinbeck created a drama that is intensely human, yet majestic in its scale and moral vision.

Historia
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal, a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss.

In this 1962 novel, Kerouac's alter ego, Jack Duluoz, overwhelmed by success and excess, gravitates back and forth between wild binges in San Francisco and an isolated cabin on the California coast where he attempts to renew his spirit and clear his head of madness and alcohol. Only nature seems to restore him to a sense of balance. In the words of Allen Ginsberg, Big Sur "reveals consciousness in all its syntactic elaboration, detailing the luminous emptiness of his own paranoiac confusion".

Historia
A poignant look at the disillusionment and angst of the post-World War I generation, The Sun Also Rises introduces two of Hemingway’s most unforgettable characters: Jake Barnes and Lady Brett Ashley. The story follows the flamboyant Brett and the hapless Jake as they journey from the wild nightlife of 1920s Paris to the brutal bullfighting rings of Spain with a motley group of expatriates. In his first great literary masterpiece, Hemingway portrays an age of moral bankruptcy, spiritual dissolution, unrealized love, and vanishing illusions.

Stevens, at the end of three decades of service at Darlington Hall, spending a day on a country drive, embarks as well on a journey through the past in an effort to reassure himself that he has served humanity by serving the "great gentleman," Lord Darlington. But lurking in his memory are doubts about the true nature of Lord Darlington's "greatness," and much graver doubts about the nature of his own life.

Historia
Dubliners is a collection of short stories by James Joyce that was first published in 1914. The 15 stories were meant to be a naturalistic depiction of the Irish middle-class life in and around Dublin in the early years of the 20th century. The stories were written at a time when Irish nationalism was at its peak and a search for a national identity and purpose was raging; at a crossroads of history and culture, Ireland was jolted by various converging ideas and influences.

The Great Gatsby is a 1925 novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Set in the Jazz Age on Long Island, near New York City, the novel depicts first-person narrator Nick Carraway's interactions with mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and Gatsby's obsession with reuniting with his former lover, Daisy Buchanan. Historia
Return to the turbulent Jazz Age and of Prohibition, the summer of 1922, as Nick Carraway relates the story of his cousin, the beautiful but married Daisy Buchanan, and of her affair with her former lover, the mysterious Jay Gatsby. One of the greatest of American novels, it is a story of an age of excess and rebellion, of desires of the flesh and those of the dollar, all ending in tragedy.

Historia
Elegant, enigmatic Jay Gatsby yearns for his old love, the beautiful Daisy. But she is married to the insensitive if hugely successful Tom Buchanan, who won’t let her go despite having a mistress himself. In their wealthy haven, these beguiling lives are brought together by the innocent and entranced narrator, Nick – until their decadent deceits spill into violence and tragedy. Part morality tale, part fairy tale, The Great Gatsby is the consummate novel of the Jazz Age. Its tenderness and poetry make it one of the great works of the 20th century.

Historia
No one - fictional or factual - embodies the Jazz Age as completely as F. Scott Fitzgerald's Jay Gatsby. First published in 1925, this legendary novel continues to enthrall generations as it serves as a lens to view our not-so-distant past. Many of our notions about that period are taken from this book. Bathtub gin, flappers, and house parties that last all week enliven Fitzgerald's classic tale. Stylish and engaging, The Great Gatsby is also a startling literate portrait of Gatsby's search for meaning in his opulent world.

Historia
Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts, is one of the most recognizable and mysterious figures in the Harry Potter series. As an unscrupulous beetle-like journalist once said, he's "a biographer's dream." Is he omniscient or limited? Is he benevolent or malevolent? What really drove him in the last years of an extraordinary life? Dumbledore dives between the lines of the Harry Potter books to create a portrait of the controversial Headmaster. We find Dumbledore's hand in every seeming coincidence and consider the impossible decisions he had to make.

A great classic read by a great actor
This story never gets old. It is a vivid portrait of the societal consequences of "turn of the century " modernization

Alive and Wild! I finished it same day.
Tim Robbins does a FANTASTIC job as the multitude of players in Mr. Fitzgerald's classic. He grips you listening on and on.

Good to revisit 42 years later
I remember disliking "The Great Gatsby" in high school four decades ago but, back then, I don't think I understood why. I cannot say that it is one of my favorites now, even after so many years. But, today, with the majority of my years behind me, I better understand the shallow and temporary joy that comes from money, fame and status. I also have witnessed the tragedy of loneliness that comes from pretencious living and acting out expectes roles with no authenticity or depth of relationship.

Excellent narration, incredible story and writing
Probably one of the best books ever written. If you read it in high school read it again as an adult. It’s much better.

Worst reading possible.
This comes off as a badly done Tennessee Williams play done by incompetent eighth graders. The book is a classic but the reading is horrendously awful.

Wonderful story ruined by a bad performance
The title says it all. I already own a couple of Gatsby audiobooks and have read this novel several times. The message is ageless. The prose is beautiful. Some passages are so descriptive that I would swear I can feel the sun, the air exactly as described.
I purchased this version because of my love for Tim Robbins in Shawshank. Figured he might bring some nuance to the voices or lines that I hadn't considered. Sadly, this reading is awful. He MUMBLES the final half of every sentence. Other times, he shouts, making it so that I can't get the volume right. His impression of drunk people is so over the top that the words are lost.
Funny enough, everyone in the book gets a ridiculous voice except Gatsby, who is so dull-sounding and meek that I didn't realize at first who Robbins was 'playing'.
I should've quit at the beginning, but we can no longer return cash purchases...

Untalented writer at his worst.
This a cheap imitation of some of Ernest Hemingway lesser novels, namely “ the sun also rises”.
I tried my best to find an iota of talent in this book. Tim Robins voice dies into inaudible whisper at the end of long sentences like a chain smoker who runs out of wind. I can’t believe it’s a recommended reading for high school children in 2022. It’s money poorly spent on this book.
