Resumen del Editor

From Janet Evanovich, number-one New York Times best-selling author of the Stephanie Plum novels, and Lee Goldberg, best-selling author and television writer for Monk, comes the first adventure in an electrifying new series featuring an FBI agent who always gets her man, and a fearless con artist who lives for the chase.

FBI Special Agent Kate O’Hare is known for her fierce dedication and discipline on the job, chasing down the world’s most wanted criminals and putting them behind bars. Her boss thinks she is tenacious and ambitious; her friends think she is tough, stubborn, and maybe even a bit obsessed. And while Kate has made quite a name for herself for the past five years the only name she’s cared about is Nicolas Fox - an international crook she wants in more ways than one.

Audacious, handsome, and dangerously charming, Nicolas Fox is a natural con man, notorious for running elaborate scams on very high-profile people. At first he did it for the money. Now he does it for the thrill. He knows that the FBI has been hot on his trail - particularly Kate O’Hare, who has been watching his every move. For Nick, there’s no greater rush than being pursued by a beautiful woman...even one who aims to lock him up. But just when it seems that Nicolas Fox has been captured for good, he pulls off his greatest con of all: He convinces the FBI to offer him a job, working side by side with Special Agent Kate O’Hare.

Problem is, teaming up to stop a corrupt investment banker who’s hiding on a private island in Indonesia is going to test O’Hare’s patience and Fox’s skill. Not to mention the skills of their ragtag team made up of flamboyant actors, wanted wheelmen, and Kate’s dad. High-speed chases, pirates, and Toblerone bars are all in a day’s work...if O’Hare and Fox don’t kill each other first.

Who knew a pirate attack could come in handy?

Absolutely incredible. One of the best books I have read in a long time. It was like Leverage meets White Collar with some essence of James Bond. Magnificent team of Agent O'Hare and Fox, they pulled off some incredible displays under incredibly high stakes. Who knew being attacked by pirates could come in handy?

The whole ride was a thrill, both because of the con process and the more action packed guns and grenades moments. And it wasn't all fun with felonies and firearms, I thought it was very intelligent too. Masterfully plotted (both Fox's schemes and by the authors overall).

The narration was great. Brick's female voices wavered into his male's tones occasionally, but the tones of the speakers remained identifiable. I was amused that his voice for older men, especially Jake, sounded just like James Garner. Incidentally I could picture him at 60ish playing Jake in a movie adaptation perfectly.

I can't wait to read the rest of the available books in this series!

Good, But not Great!

I love Janet Evanovich, love her books, Stephanie Plum is quite the character. Those books make you laugh out loud, this book does not. I keep thinking i'll get into it eventually but it's just not happening. I want to like it, just can't say I do. Characters are Ok, nothing special, just not grabbing me, hopefully others find it better.

Sex and the City as read by a great narrator

Now I see why my male shipmates don't read stuff by female authors - I find it very hard to refrain from using my Sailors four-letter language to describe my emotions while listening to this clap-trap.

Apparently Ms. Evanovich thinks a strong woman must be a frigid woman, because success (we are informed) for a woman lies in the number of orgasms she has, and the crowning achievement lies in owning a husband, a house, kids and a Jack Russell Terrier.

I will say this much for this book - it has reinforced my love for my family who have always supported me and celebrated my achievements, such as promotions and mission accomplishments, without questioning whether or not I am having orgasms.

The only thing I enjoyed listening to in this book was the part where she shared a six-pack of beer and a bucket of KFC with her dad. Until he too brought up the fact that she wasn't getting laid...sigh! At that point I paused the book for a few hours while I went out to get me some chicken.

Lee Goldberg is what keeps me listening - he can make any book enjoyable.

Predictable story line

I kept waiting for twists in the storyline. But it moved on predictable path. Villain is shown as dumb, sex deprived man, I wonder how he pulled a huge swindle but failed to judge a simple plan to catch him.

Better than I thought it would be

After completing a very long non-fictional contempory history, I was looking for something on the light side. I had read several of Evonvich's mysteries and thought that would fit the bill. And as a matter of fact, I thought this book was better than the others I had read, though they had been just fine. The flavor of the beginning of the book was what I had been expecting, but as it progressed, I enjoyed the interplay of the multigenerational characters and the well thought out story. Also, I wasn't so sure how much I was going to like the female-led storyline being voiced by a male. I enjoyed it very much. so kudos deserved there.

My Favorite New Series

What did you like best about this story?

The story is well written - witty, humorous, and well thought out. The con isn't beyond reason. The narration works great with the writing and I found myself instantly liking all the characters. You're going to be buying the whole series after reading any of the books.

An unlikely partnership

FBI Special Agent Kate O’Hare has spent 5 years trying to catch con man Nick Fox. When she finally does catch him, there's a strange twist to the plot. I've ready Janet Evanovich's series of Stephanie Plum books and found them entertaining. There's a formula there that works. I'm guessing that this is just the first in many more adventures for the unlikely partners of Kate O'Hare and Nick Fox. I especially liked Kate's dad Jake. This wasn't the most riveting novel, but it was definitely amusing.
