Resumen del Editor

Christianity is facing an authenticity crisis...

Why do we feel the need to hide our struggles, doubts, and fears? Why is there sometimes a disconnect between our faith and our feelings? Why do we sometimes wonder, God, what are you doing? Are you even there?

For some, this comes from being handed a shame-based religion, for others, an image-keeping faith of rules and regulations. For others still, Christianity is a hamster wheel of performance. And this led me to realizing...I can’t do this anymore.

I can’t pretend. I can’t hide the battle we all face in living as sons and daughters of God in a fallen world. I can’t deny that more than I’d like to admit, I live from an “orphan identity”, stuck in a false narrative of a distant God. But there is another way, and I’d be honored to share it with you. Once you embrace who you really are, that’s when the fun begins.

I’ve learned that the path to living “2.0” is through facing our haunting questions with honesty. It’s by acknowledging the difficulty of transformation and the struggle to turn to a God who wants something more for you than guilt, shame, and performance.

In The Hidden Delight of God, you will learn to walk in what Christianity was intended to be...

Freedom. Grace. Authenticity.

This audiobook is an invitation for you to discover the simple, but profound truth that God delights in his kids, and that realization is the first step to killing your fear, finding your freedom, and taking back your life.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“Some Christian books are profound and Biblical, some fun, some will haunt you with the truth and some will change your life. John Hever has pulled off all four. You will never again read about the exodus of God’s people out of Egypt into the promised land without thinking about The Hidden Delight of God. This is a refreshing book and a game changer. You will "rise up and call me blessed" for commending it to you.” (Steve Brown, broadcaster, seminary professor, author)

“Like every one of God's children who has ever lived, we are prone to forget his faithful love toward us and shackle ourselves once more to the cruel taskmasters of sin and law. In The Hidden Delight of God, John Hever places the key of freedom back into our shaky hands as he walks us through the ancient story of Exodus. If, like me, you are prone to forget, read this book. You will remember who you are in Jesus and be set free again.” (Noel Heikkinen, U.S. Midwest network director for Acts 29, lead pastor at Riverview Church in Lansing, Michigan, author)

“How big is God in your story? That’s the intriguing question in John Hever’s compelling book, The Hidden Delight of God. Retelling the fascinating account of the exodus, we travel with the children of Israel from a slave-orphan mentality to true freedom and sonship. So, read this "giant story of warfare, rescue, wilderness, and abundance". And you just may re-discover, "the epic story of you". (Johnny Hunt, pastor, author, former president of the Southern Baptist Convention)

Practical and life changing

This is one of the best and most practical books I have read on living life abandoned as a true daughter of God through Christ. John, through extensive scripture and scholarly resources, helps us to understand God's heart for us, His inexplicable joy for us; joy He offers to us, along with an incredible life long purposeful journey.

I never understood the phrase, “Apple of your eye”.

Our culture is experiencing an identity crisis that may be unprecedented. Over the last two years I have felt unmoored and tossed about trying to figure out what is going on. The truth found in this book has reaffirmed my true identity, who I am to God, and has set forth forces of joy, purpose and peace in a world intent on tearing itself apart. Instead of the powerlessness I felt, I feel a fresh sense of God’s real presence and a renewed desire to claim my place in the living narrative that Christ has made my birthright. My “second” birth right.

This book grippingly explains the story of the Bible from cover to cover, unwrapping how it relates with us today. I have the audible version and it is well narrated by the author and an absolute pleasure to listen to during my commute.

Fascinating dive into the Book of Exodus

Pastor John Hever has accomplished many things with this book, chief among them is revolutionizing the way I will read the Book of Exodus from here forward. I have always been fascinated with Exodus but for the most part have failed to see it as my story. John’s fidelity to the authority of Scripture, combined with keen insights gleaned from decades of pastoral work have brought forth a life-changing work. The struggles of Moses and the doubts of the Hebrews are reflections of the struggles and doubts all believers have. Like with Moses and the Israelites, God wants to take each of us from slavery, through the wilderness, and into our new identity as his sons and daughters. This book is for every believer who has struggled to embrace his sonship identity, who has ever felt disappointed with God, or who has ever been reluctant to embrace God’s calling on their life - in other words, every believer.
