Resumen del Editor

THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Named a most-anticipated summer book by USA Today, People, E! News, Cosmopolitan, PureWow, CNN.com, New York Post, CrimeReads, POPSUGAR, and more

The bestselling author of Final Girls and Survive the Night is back with his “best plot twist yet.” (People, "Best Summer Books")

Be careful what you watch for . . .

Casey Fletcher, a recently widowed actress trying to escape a streak of bad press, has retreated to the peace and quiet of her family’s lake house in Vermont. Armed with a pair of binoculars and several bottles of bourbon, she passes the time watching Tom and Katherine Royce, the glamorous couple living in the house across the lake. They make for good viewing—a tech innovator, Tom is powerful; and a former model, Katherine is gorgeous.

One day on the lake, Casey saves Katherine from drowning, and the two strike up a budding friendship. But the more they get to know each other—and the longer Casey watches—it becomes clear that Katherine and Tom’s marriage isn’t as perfect as it appears. When Katherine suddenly vanishes, Casey immediately suspects Tom of foul play. What she doesn’t realize is that there’s more to the story than meets the eye—and that shocking secrets can lurk beneath the most placid of surfaces.

Packed with sharp characters, psychological suspense, and gasp-worthy plot twists, Riley Sager’s The House Across the Lake is the ultimate escapist story . . . no lake house required.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“Pure escape . . . A voyeuristic page-turner. After I read it, I dove for more Sager: luckily he has five others, bestsellers all.”The Boston Globe, “Ten Thrillers to Read on Your Summer Vacation”

“The tale takes a series of weird turns, morphing into a cross between Silence of the Lambs and The Exorcist. . . . As with Sager’s first five thrillers, the characters are well drawn and the prose is first rate."—Associated Press

“It's a familiar psychological thriller structure--until everything changes. . . . A page-turning climax.”—USA Today

Awful narrator

I was so excited for this new book as I’ve listened to all of Riley Sager’s novels and loved them. However this narrator is horrible and completely ruined the book for me. I don’t know if I can even finish it. So disappointed I wasted the credit. I’m sure it’s an amazing book if it weren’t for that raspy old lady voice.

Ridiculous ending

Story was good, not great until the end. It was like reading 2 different books. Part one was a mystery. Part two ridiculous.

*Spoilers*

What started out as a probably 5 star story, quickly turned to maybe a 2 in the last quarter.. why introduce this weird, random, paranormal story.. then when you think it's over, Tom is also still trying to kill his wife? The reveal felt like a Scooby-Doo, "and I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddeling kids!" It also felt like it was just quickly added to the end because it couldn't be fit in anymore. Most of the story was good, so I've settled on a 3.

Also, while the narrator did a great job in narrating, her voice is far too old for how old I assume Casey is. It made Casey sound elderly, and so every mention of her mom controlling her life felt like... okay how old are you? It was just hard to connect.

Story was great. Narration was awful imo

Something about the narrators voice didn’t work for me. It didn’t fit the character and was distracting. I would rather have read the book

Great Story/ Unfortunate Choice of Narrator

This is a well written story with a few good twists and connections. However, the choice of narrator was not a match. The narrator's voice sounds like that of an elderly woman. It makes it very difficult to visualize the protagonist as a woman in her thirties. It had a negative impact on my experience listening to this title. If I had not been trying to finish in time for my book club, I would have abandoned the audio. I recommend choosing the print version for this title.

Unexpected plot

I read a lot of psychological thrillers, and I usually figure out where they're headed, but this one was surprising! I really enjoyed it.

Wrong Narrator for this book

So, the narrator herself wasn’t bad, but I think they picked the wrong narrator for this book. As they described the main character, I pictured her more in her 30s/40s, however the narrator easily sounds like she’s in her 60s or older… which completely threw off the energy as I was listening and almost made me want to stop a few times because it didn’t seem to flow correctly.

The book in the beginning was interesting, then hit a null point in the middle and picked up again at the end. So all in all, it was alright but I probably wouldn’t read it again.

Narrator ruins it

Overall good book. Couldn’t get over the awful old lady voice that made the main character very annoying. Wish I read it instead of listened.

wrong narrator for this!

the voice narrator of this audiobook sounds like she is an older person , yet maybe I got this wrong but I pictured the character in her late 40's but the voice threw me off on this one. And I only have 3 stars because it went from a modern day tear window to wtf- strange!
