Resumen del Editor

Christopher G. Nuttall’s novel of human fear and survival, set in the thrilling world of his Angel in the Whirlwind series.

A year after the Commonwealth won the war with the Theocracy, the interstellar cruise liner Supreme is on its maiden voyage, carrying a host of aristocrats thrilled to be sharing in a wondrous adventure among the stars. The passengers include the owner and his daughters, Angela and Nancy. Growing up with all the luxuries in the world, neither sister has ever known true struggle, but that all changes when a collision with a pirate ship leaves the cruiser powerless and becalmed in hyperspace. And they’re not alone.

Now, the mysterious force that’s living on this floating graveyard is coming for Supreme’s crew and passengers. As madness starts to tear at their minds, they must fight to survive in a strange alien realm.

And there’s no way out...

Okay, but not great

This might be a new series being launched from the Whirlwind Series. In this story we have a luxury Space Liner on its maiden voyage. A hyperspace trap is sprung by aliens and the story begins.

The book is well written. The basic idea of the story is ageless. I don’t think the story is up to the usual Nuttall standard. The owner of the ship and his two daughters are aboard the vessel and they are the key people in the story. Later in the book, the action is good. There was more foul language in this book than I can remember in all Nuttall’s other books. Ove all it is an interesting story.

The book is thirteen hours and fifty-nine minutes. Jennifer Jelsema does a good job narrating the book. Jelsema is a new narrator for me. Jelsema is an actress, voice actor and audiobook narrator.

Well crafted story but much slower

A well crafted story which includes elements of many different genres that proceeds to a new beginning as much as an ending. Commercial space line attacked by pirates and then by an alien intelligence before crashing in a unknown system. Rich young women faces the realities of her life. Attendants discover the leadership skills hidden within. Alien intelligence alters lives and then disappears as the liner appears to escape. Worth a listen, but no need to rush it to the top of your TBL pile.

Really a surprise

This is the type of excellent book once comes to expect from Christopher G. Nuttall. It revolves around a star liner that is on it's maiden voyage with a manifest of high ranking passengers which include the head of the firm that owns the liner. The interplay of characters is outstanding and you can almost feel the excitement and fear as each one goes through the situations that happen on the cruise.

The narration is also outstanding.

I do hope that there will be more books in this series as I have enjoyed all of the books to date.

A nice adventure

As a side story to the Angel In The Whirlwind series it was an interesting interlude. Maybe a little slow, at first, but things got moving about half way through. Character development was nicely done and a realistic portrayal of the disparity between the haves and have nots was skillfully accomplished. It was good to see some of the former group begin to come to terms with the reality of survival. Would have been nice to find out just where to survivors ended up....perhaps meat for another story. Over all a good tale.

Star Trek has already solved every problem

If only the characters had watched the old Star Trek shows, mentioned in the book, solutions to their problems would have been more ready to hand.

The over-plotted set-up:
* Maiden voyage of an over-designed luxury liner full of snobby titled folks. The Corporation's owner and family are on board.
* Arranged marriage between Corporation's daughter and a wealthy family. She is not pleased.
* Handsome body-shopped lowly steward falls in love with her perfect face and body.
* Some members of the defeated Theocracy come on board.
* A serial killer is brought on for transport
* Trapped in a weird not-space, not hyperspace place, ship broke.
* Famous little sister is possessed.
* People start seeing things and hearing voices.

How many Star Trek episodes are combined here?

This is so much better than the Angel in the Whirlwind Kat books, but still has problems. Girl's arguments with her fiance are weak and brainless. Steward loves her for her looks. Nancy's situation is illogical and dumb. Serial killer plot point fizzles. But, note that this still gets 4 stars because it is interesting and exciting, and has aroused our curiosity. There's bound to be a sequel because several things are left unresolved, and well, when has Nuttall written a standalone book?

The narration is super annoying at first. You know the arguments of "mounTain" versus "mou^en"? Many people pronounce the word with a glottal stop for the middle T. This lady doesn't even have that. Didn't becomes dint, hadn't becomes hant, wouldn't is woont, and important is impor-ant. She puts the accent on the wrong syllable a couple times, to wit, reFORM as opposed re-form, meaning to shape again. Can't tell if one person's name is Belkin or Falcon. Someone on the bridge is named Title? Can't tell if they wear wrist coms or wrist cons (as in console?). Her voices are okay except for Captain Paul. She tries to imbue him with the gravitas of a mature, calm military leader, but he ends up sounding bored, tired and drugged. But if you listen through the annoyance, you get used to it, mostly.

I'm still going to hope for a sequel because, despite all my gripes, I am interested to see what happens next!

Miss Cat F. But still a great story!

Was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this novel. While not about Cat F. The characters are well written and easily relatable. The story flows smoothly from start to finish. Overall a great read!

Good story, annoying narrator.

This narrator has trouble with hard consonants. Here are a few examples: Didn't becomes dint, rotten is ra-enn, couldn't is coont, important is imporant. Thank goodness for Kindle where you can read the book in Standard English.

Voice acting diction

I normally am not fussy regarding diction in voice acting and this is the first review where I have ever given negative feedback.

Typically I love it when a voice actor can do different voices and different accents. That being said Ms Jelsema hit a pet peeve of mine. Dropping middle consonants in words. Specifically Ts and Ds

Didn't = Dint
Certain = Cer-in
Important = Impor-in
Wouldn't = woont
Couldn't = coont

and so on.

Had it been only in the dialog I could have dismissed it as accent or dialect but it was also in the narration. It really took away from the story for me as I winced sentence after sentence when it occurred.

Other than that Ms Jelsema's performance was fine. This is something she should work on as a professional. It would be OK to adopt such a manner of pronunciation if the material called for it but it should not be her baseline.

It will make me think twice about choosing books where she is the performer.

Missed the mark

The Angel in the whirlwind series was good, but this wasn't. By the end I found myself not even caring if they got out or not.
